Nonstop knockouts was the theme at Day 2 of the 12th CPG Championship Finals with the 1,446 returning players out of the event’s 3,787 entry field further trimmed to just 257 players. That meant over the course of ten hours of play a total of 1,189 players fell by the wayside. Going down the hardest was Suiyuan Chen who exited on the bubble. During the tenth hand-for-hand, Chen ran into a cooler with KcKh dusted by Changyu Ren’s AcAs.

The remaining 405 players then celebrated reaching the money and from there, the dropouts were even faster. By bagging time, a familiar face was at the top of the counts, WSOP bracelet holder Qiang Xu sitting on a deep 122 big blinds.

While Xu sported a big stack for a good portion of the day, Jiang Zhou earned his big stack during the last hands of the day. Zhou cleaned out UK’s Jun Li with Jd10d runner runner higher two pair against 10s6d on a board 6s10h4s7d7c. Zhou bagged up 1,650,000 (110 bb). Rounding out the top three was Shaohua Lai who closed the day with a very healthy 1,605,000 (107 bb).

It is also well worth mentioning fourth ranked player Tianhao Zheng with 1,510,000 (100 bb). Zheng is a well known Asia circuit regular with numerous titles under his belt.  Other notables surviving the day’s race were Pham Tien Dung (64 bb), Xue Song (51 bb), Feng Zhao, Junsheng Cannon Lim (48 bb), Neo Zhi Han (46 bb), Shigeaki Okada (46 bb), Xiaosheng Zheng (40 bb), and Nguyen Ngoc Dai (14 bb). Malaysia’s Terry Sua missed the money at the marquee event however it did not deter him from quickly pursuing the next best thing. Sua was one of 331 players that signed up for Day 1A of the Lucheng Cup and was one of 78 players advancing to Day 2. Sua bagged up the biggest stack of 561,500 (187 bb).
