Following nearly three hours of final table gameplay, China’s Zhang Lirui secured the victory after defeating Australia’s Ai Rex Hunt in heads up play. Zhang started the heads up duel with 2:1 advantage and locked in the win in just under an hour. The final hand saw Ai all-in with AdKc against Zhang’s AhJc. Whilst dominated, Zhang continued his run good and locked in the win on board AsJs9hJd8c.

The final nine players is set with China’s Lin Yan leading the final table action with 2.7 M (67 BB) in chips. Average stack is listed at just a little over a million, giving Lin a huge advantage in the final games. Each contender is now guaranteed a minimum payout of KRW 5,570,000.

Tu Guanlan shoved his short stack in with 10h10c and was called by two opponents – Zhang Lirui 4d7d and chip leader Lin Yan JdQh. The board ran 3d3c2dAcJh and left Lin to pick up the pot with his two pair jacks and threes. Tu exits in 10th place and  takes with him KRW 5,570,000 in winnings.

WPT Korea’s opening event locked in a total of 387 entries recorded across three starting flights and found its player base hailing a strong representation from neighboring China. Each Day 1 played down to the money, resulting in only 48 players returning to battle today. Day 1A chip leader Iakimenko Anton continues to lead, holding down a massive 108 big blind stack to start the Day 2 games.

Action resumes at Level 15: 3,000 – 6,000 ante 6,000, 12 noon.
