2024 CPG Championship Side Events Halfway Highlights

The 2024 CPG Championship by premier brand China Poker Games, not only boasts a must-attend Main Event but also a series of exciting side games, all featuring freezeout formats. With the festival now halfway through, the side events have been generating healthy prize pools ranging from US$ 150,000 to over US$ 320,000.

Attendance has been steadily climbing as well. On Day 3 and Day 4, Turbo events brought in 200-250 players each, the Isabelle Global Mystery Bounty drew 277 players, and the Progressive Bounty Challenge attracted 347 players.

Day 5 saw a further surge in numbers, with the Deepstack event drawing 371 players—the largest side event turnout so far—while the Deepstack Turbo saw 324 players.

With five more festival days remaining, there’s still plenty of side action left to conquer. The 2024 CPG Championship, which opened on August 21, is set to conclude on August 30 at the Howard Johnson Resort in Sanya, Hainan, China.

2024 CPG Championship – Event Highlights

Shi Haoxiang Wins Free Trade Port Cup High Roller

The costliest event in the first half of the festival was the Free Trade Port Cup High Roller attracting 108 players for a prize pool of ~US$ 268K. The top 13 places earned a cut. China’s Shi Haoxiang took it to the limit to be crowned champion.

The final day kicked off with 13 players returning led by Korea’s Park Younghee and Vietnam’s Quang Huy Nguyen running fifth rank. Nguyen’s pursuit of his first title on Chinese soil was cut short before reaching the final table while Park held on to the top spot until the game reached three-handed play. Park ultimately finished in 3rd place. In a brief conversation, Park shared,

“It is my first time here, players are very good. Also very tight. It was tough but I like it here. Games are good. I will play the Main Event next.”

347 Players At Progressive Bounty Challenge

On day 3, Event 13: Progressive Bounty Challenge saw a substantial turnout of 347 players,. This generated an impressive prize pool of US$ 288K. China’s Zhongyao Li kept his head above ground to capture his first ever CPG win.

Isabelle Global Mystery Bounty Attracts 277 Players

On Day 4, the ever-so-popular Mystery Bounty, sponsored by Isabelle Global, drew 277 players which at the time was the second largest side event of the festival. China’s Sun Jing won it to secure her first ever CPG trophy.

Day 3 and Day 4

The past two days also saw the Deepstack Turbo events draw big fields. Event 26: Deepstack Turbo pulled in 240 players for a prize pool of US$ 159,400. At Event 37: Deepstack Turbo sponsored by Japan Gold Dragon, 225 players signed up for a prize pool of US$ 149,400. Trumping both was the Mini NLH Turbo which drew 250 players.

Attendance Surges On Day 5

USOP High Rollers Draws 163 Players

On the halfway mark, the numbers swelled even more with 163 players turning up for the USOP sponsored High Rollers event to build a handsome prize pool of ~US$ 324,700. Among the attendees were USOP ambassador Kyle Bao Diep and USOP’s latest Main Event champion Ian Lee.

By the time the final table was formed, all of the notables were done and dusted. Leading up to a champion, the final three players were all awarded a ticket to the upcoming USOP Hai Phong – Madness Kickoff Event. Dai Xiwei went on to victory, defeating Yu Lei at heads up.

Deepstack and Deepstack Turbo events

The two Deepstack events on Day 5 drew 371 players and 324 players. The larger of the two saw the prize pool swell to ~US$ 308,000 with Korea’s Shin Eun Sik securing the win. At the slightly smaller DS Turbo, it collected a decent US$ 215,140. Meng Liu claimed the win.

Late Game Surge For Jinda Shao To Win PLO Challenge

87 Omaha enthusiasts jumped in PLO Challenge for a prize pool of US$ 86.6K. Only 20 returned on the final day. Seven hours in, China’s Jinda Shao came from behind at three-handed to capture his first ever CPG win. The final hand saw a board , Shao with flush over .
