USOP Vietnam: Australians John Perry, Brendon Rubie dominate Day 7; Ng Shu Hong wins trophy; Huy Quang Nguyen bags over a million at Main Event Day 1A

Emotional day for Australians as John Perry and Brendon Rubie were both minted at Day 7 of U Series of Poker Vietnam held at Crown Poker Club. Singapore’s Ng Shun Hong also claimed a trophy and Huy Quang Nguyen bagged a monster pile at Main Event Day 1A. Here are the results.

The Main Event was buzzing with activity as players flocked in to participate in the USOP’s flagship event in Vietnam. By the end of ten levels, a total of 173 entries were made, with 109 players registered and 64 re-entries. Notables David Erquiaga, GACKT, Vincent Li, and Tiger Lee were among the participants, however all missed the mark.

As the twelfth hour of play approached, the bubble burst in a three-way pot, with Stephen Courtney shipping it and Dong Van Tan in disbelief. Courtney bagged up the second largest stack of the day of 122 BB.

Earning the top spot was highly decorated Vietnamese high roller Huy Quang Nguyen with a towering 169 big blinds, and was the only player to reach a million in chips.

John Perry triumphs at the Super High Roller for VN₫ 2.3 Billion (~US$ 98,700)

Talk about being on fire! John Perry from Australia is having a fantastic run in Asia, with his first poker trip to this part of the world proving to be extremely profitable. In March, Perry won the WPT Prime Cambodia High Roller event, netting over US$ 105K. He then headed to APT Phu Quoc and placed 5th at the Main Event, earning another US$ 33K. Perry’s winning streak continued at the USOP, where he emerged victorious in the Super High Roller, taking home another US$ 98K.

Perry entered the final table way ahead of the pack, and kept it intact, eventually defeating Singapore’s Sebastian Tan in a grueling heads up match. You can relive the action via the recorded livestream at Crown Poker Club YouTube channel.

The Super High Roller was a two-day affair that drew 99 total entries for a prize pool of VN₫ 7,682,900,000 (~US$ 326,800). Kwan Do bubbled to Minh Quang Nguyen who went on to reach the final table in 4th place. Overnight chip leader Minh Ngoc Le finished in 14th place.

Among the finalists was Tobias Bui who recently championed the Superstar Challenge. His bid for a second high roller title ended just two spots shy in 3rd place. Prior to reaching the final table, Bui eliminated USOP founder Tse Ian Lee (13th) in brutal fashion. Bui landed two pair on the turn with King-Queen to crack pocket Aces.
