The World Series of Poker (WSOP) Sydney which runs from November 22 to December 12, 2016 at The Star boasts 21 days of poker action with 11 official WSOP ring events being hosted. One of these events is a AU$2,000 Main Event with a $1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.
The WSOP brand is the most prestigious brand in the poker industry and befitting its prestige is a spectacular opening event which got sold out. The opening event which was a WSOP ring event follows a No Limit platform with a buy-in of AU$440. All 4 flights of the tournament which was capped at 300 was sold out, making the prize pool go over the AU$350,000 guarantee by AU$130,000.
In the end, George Psarras outlasted 1,200 runners and won $90,000 for the opening event.
The Turbo Event saw 359 runners (including re-entries) with Peter Dykes taking home the trophy and cashing over AU$32K.
Another winner of the coveted WSOP ring is Suzy Khoueis who triumphed over 130 other ladies in the Ladies Tournament.
