On the twelfth hour of play, the inaugural Poker Dream Taiwan Main Event was captured by Taiwan’s Wu Peng Sen aka Shawn Wu for his first ever live title and a career high payout of TWD 4,650,000 (~USD 151,600).

“I am very happy and excited. I was very lucky at heads up. I’ve been playing tournaments so I have plenty of experience in how to come from behind.”

Entering the final table ranked seventh, Wu stormed to the top of the counts after railing Malaysia’s Hoong Kiat Tan in 7th place. Before he called the shove, Wu tanked for nearly ten minutes.

“I was thinking for a long time in this hand because I was reviewing the betting action and what this player has done before. Then I decided it was the right decision to call.”

Leading up to the final table, Wu faced off against Hong Kong’s Alan King Lun Lau numerous times and lost a sizable portion of his stack to drop down in the counts. He eventually faced Taiwan’s Chu Yong Chun at heads up on a deficit.

On just the second heads up hand, Wu doubled up with King-Queen over King-Nine to take the lead then held rank for nearly the entire heads up. Chu briefly evened up but untimely bluffs led to his downward spiral as Wu widened his lead. The final hand, Wu shoved Jd10c from the button, big blind Chu called with Kd10d. The board ran 8s3dAcQc9s for a rivered straight.
