APPT Cambodia: First Shard Trophy up for grabs as APPT National $100K guaranteed gets underway

The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Cambodia is in full swing at the Grand Ballroom of NagaWorld Phnom Penh with the first PokerStars Shard Trophy up for grabs at the APPT National. This is the second key event of the series and it features a US$ 100,000 guarantee.

Some of the early shakers included Amit Kaushik, Matt Douhan, Roland Kivi, Tyler Warken, and Duc Thanh Nguyen. For latecomers, there’s still plenty of time to jump in with registration closing at 8:10pm. Buy in is US$ 800. This is a single re-entry event. At the time of posting there were 50 entries and rising.

If you miss today’s window, two more flights are on tap on Monday, May 8. Flight B starts at 1pm and Flight C Turbo at 8pm.

[Schedule change] Announced at the venue, the 3pm KO Bounty Turbo Freezeout has been moved to 8pm and will see blinds increase at a faster 15 minutes. Buy in is US$ 500. Another trophy event today is the Win The Button Turbo Re-Entry which starts at 6pm. Buy in is US$ 200.

About APPT Cambodia

APPT Cambodia, in partnership with Connaissance Management, kicked off on May 5 and will run a course of 11 days, concluding on May 15. This is the APPT’s second visit to the Kingdom of Wonder and it won’t be the last. Senior Manager of APPT, Lorie Ann Lagrosas, confirmed that Cambodia will be a permanent stop in the tour’s annual schedule.

In addition to the APPT National are a few other events to win a PS Shard Trophy. The highlight is of course the Main Event which features a whopping US$ 400,000 guarantee. It runs from May 12 to 15 with buy in of US$ 1,500.

Cash Games

APPT Cambodia tournament players can also look forward to plenty of juicy Cash Games. Both No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha are offered with stakes of $1/$3, $2/$5, $5/$10, and $10/$25. Other stakes can be considered. Cash game players can also enjoy complimentary beer during happy hour from 5-9pm.

Special player room rates are still available at NagaWorld. Make sure to book yours before they run out. Rates start from as low as US$ 55 per night. For first timers, Phnom Penh is 5 hours away from Siem Reap, site of Angkor Wat, the largest temple in the world. Make sure to set time  apart from the felt as this is a must see destination.

NO TAX on winnings

Players will also be glad to know that there is “NO TAX” on both cash and tournament winnings.

Airport to NagaWorld Integrated Resort Complex

For travelers arriving at the Phnom Penh International Airport, there are multiple options available to get to NagaWorld Integrated Resort Complex. To avoid getting overcharged, Grab Taxi and Metered Taxi Service – Global Taxi are recommended. The distance is roughly 10km which is around 30 minutes.

Currency

The country’s currency is the Cambodian Riel, however the US Dollar is widely accepted. In fact, USD is more accepted than the Riel. At the festival, USD will be used for both tournaments and cash games. Exchange counters are available at the hotel lobby.
