Gyöngyi P. Tóth | Poker Stories Writer at SoMuchPoker
Gyöngyi P. Tóth is SoMuchPoker's Content Writer and Poker Stories Specialist, writing Side Pot features, WSOP storylines, and the site's Poker in Pop Culture and Legends of Poker series. She was introduced to poker 20 years ago through live tournament play, and what has kept her interest since is the psychology and human behavior behind the game as much as the cards themselves.
Poker’s Stories, On and Off the Felt
I write Side Pot stories that follow the drama around the WSOP and the wider poker world, from Phil Hellmuth’s theatrical entrances to tournament controversies, disqualifications and the occasional crossover story, like MMA fighter Colby Covington’s run at a WSOP high roller or soccer manager Sergej Barbarez’s poker career.
Poker in Pop Culture
I also write SoMuchPoker’s Poker in Pop Culture series, covering the game’s history and quirks, from casino chips and dress codes to the best poker movies. Alongside that, I contribute to the Legends of Poker and From Chips to Fame series, profiling the players who shaped the game.
Two Decades at the Tables
I was introduced to poker 20 years ago through live tournament play, and it quickly became clear this was a demanding and engaging pursuit. Beyond the competitive drive, and setting aside the role luck plays in any gambling game, poker involves psychology and sociology, offering a window into human behavior. I have tried other formats, but No Limit Hold’em tournaments remain the most compelling challenge for me.
Content Philosophy
A good poker story needs more than results, it needs the human context behind them. I aim to bring that context to WSOP storylines and the wider culture around the game, while keeping the facts straight.
