Main Event Day 2 Recap
Yesterday’s Day 2 rounds welcomed 58 players back to the tables with only nine having advanced through to the final round. Eliminations left and right were seen early in the games beginning with Conrad Pumicpic’s exit as the day’s first casualty. Pumicpic suffered a terrible bad beat with pocket kings and bowed out within the first five minutes. The field saw some of its strongest local contenders such as APL Main Event 2018 champion Lester Edoc, bracelet winner Mike Takayama, and Philippines’ #1 tournament earner Marc Rivera, similarly head for the rails an hour in.
By early evening, the final table began taking shape as the field dwindled down to its last few tables. Pressure of the increasing blinds led to many stacks being shipped back and forth, making it a preflop game for the most part. Day 2 chip leader John Gallagher still remained in the mix but was left drawing short after going head on with Singapore’s Jingxiang Ong. The Irish runner maintained his stack throughout the day yet lost his lead after he five bet jammed right into his opponent’s . Gallagher busted two levels later in 16th place and banked PHP 224,000 (~USD 4,050) in winnings for his incredible run.
Final nine chip leader Vince Nachor sat atop the ranks by the last three tables and was relentless in taking down pots postflop. Nachor took a boost even more so after he eliminated John Clyde Tan in 14th place finish in a blind vs blind battle. By the end of the day, the Filipino runner bagged the biggest stack moving forward with 2.6 Million in chips (106 BB) to battle with.
Following in close second is Taiwan’s Liao Po Hsun who knocked out Norbert Koh, Jacky Ho, and Choi Yun Su, in 10th, 11th and 12th place respectively. Liao served the double elimination after he ran a straight against two sets to seal the win. The Taiwanese runner then proceeded to bust Koh with two pair vs two pair and close the day.
Joining the two in the final nine are also notable local pros Euryd Rivera, Moses Saquing, and Edgar Asehan. All remaining players are guaranteed a minimum payout of PHP 395,000 (~USD 7,140) and a fighting chance to claim the hefty first prize listed up top!
