A buffet of high roller bracelet events resulted in star-studded fields at the 52nd World Series of Poker. Two of the four games have completed with four players pocketing seven figures. Spain’s Adrian Mateos banked over US$ 3.2M and his fourth career bracelet at the steepest buy in event of the series, the US$ 250K Super High Roller No Limit Hold’em. At the US$ 50K High Roller Pot Limit Omaha, the three handed match lasted four hours that ended with Jeremy Ausmus overcoming both Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu to capture his third career bracelet and second series win. Hellmuth continued his outstanding performance with a runner up finish and seventh final table, the most by any player at the festival. Also locking up a bracelet was Robert Cowen at the $3K 6-Handed PLO for his first ever series title.

The ongoing festival is down to its final two days at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino. Only five bracelet events have yet to be won and an additional two at online platform WSOP.com. At the WSOP Player of the Year race, Josh Arieh leads, Phil Hellmuth ranked second, and with Ausmus’ latest win, he moved into third position. The Super High Roller No Limit Hold’em attracted some of the biggest names in the poker world with 33 putting up the US$ 250,000 buy in for a massive prize pool of US$ 8,217,000. Among the contributors were Michael Addamo and Ali Imsirovic, both players topping the Day 1 counts, Justin Bonomo, David Peters, Daniel Negreanu, Mikita Badziakouski, Timofey Kuznetsov, Stephen Chidwick, and Spain’s Adrian Mateos who bagged up a dominating stack at the end of Day 2 and went on to close it out in Day 3. Mateos secured his fourth bracelet and a career high score of US$ 3,265,262. Back in 2013, the champ won the WSOP Europe Main Event for a cool one million dollars. He locked up his next two bracelets at the 2016 $1,500 Summer Solstice No Limit Hold’em and 2017 $10,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold’em Championship. With his latest big win, Mateos’ total live earnings climbed to over US$ 25.2 Million.

Briefly recapping the event, Day 1 chip leaders Addamo and Imsirovic couldn’t match their opening day performance and fell way before the money. On the flip side, Mateos cracked two pocket Aces that sent out Nilesh Patel and chunked Negreanu. The bubble burst on Christoph Vogelsang with bracelet winner Keith Tilston delivering the bad news. Five players returned on the final day with Mateos backed by over half of the chips in play.

After the departure of Tilston (5th) and Seth Davies (4th), the last three players were guaranteed seven figures each. Mateos eliminated a fairly unknown player, John Kincaid, who collected a life changing US$ 1.3M on just his fifth ever WSOP cash. At heads up, Mateos was up 2:1 which grew to 4:1 before the final hand landed. Mateos cleaned out bracelet winner Benjamin Heath with Qs10c top pair over 5d3d pair on a board 7c6d5sQh2s. Heath pocketed a career high US$ 2,018,148. Mateos became the first Spaniard to win at the ongoing series.

Event #84: $50,000 High Roller Pot Limit Omaha – JEREMY AUSMUS – US$ 1,188,918

The battle for the $50,000 High Roller Pot Limit Omaha bracelet and chunky US$ 1,188,918 first prize came down to a four hour marathon at three handed. In the end, Jeremy Ausmus overcame elite players Phil Hellmuth and Daniel Negreanu to capture his third career bracelet. This was Ausmus’ second win of the series having also shipped Event #3: $1,000 Covid-19 Charity Relief. He joined four other players in accomplishing this difficult feat. Prior to this series, Ausmus collected his largest pay of US$ 2,155,313 at the 2012 WSOP Main Event for placing 5th. To date, Ausmus has US$ 4.6 Million in WSOP earnings. He catapulted up to third position in the WSOP Player of the Year race.

Finishing in 2nd place was 16x bracelet winner Hellmuth who continued his outstanding run reaching seven final tables that included two runner ups. He is currently ranked 2nd in the WSOP POYrace. The frontrunner is 4x winner Josh Arieh who placed 7th in this event for his sixth final table. 6x winner Daniel Negreanu was on his third final table but still couldn’t pull in a win, taking 3rd place instead. Negreanu jumped from 16th in the WSOP POY race to 5th rank.

The three-handed bout saw the chip lead move to every player at the table. At one point, Ausmus dropped to just 6 BB while Negreanu led with 24 BB and Hellmuth at 20 BB. Ausmus recovered on a rivered flush against Negreanu then grinded back to chip leader. Negreanu was on the downward trend and lost his remaining 6 BB to Hellmuth. Heads up lasted two hands. On a flop 7d9c6s, Hellmuth jammed Kh9h7c6d two pair, Ausmus called Ad8h5h2h straight, the turn 10c and river Qc completed the board for a second victory to Ausmus and a handsome seven figure payout.

Event #80: $3,000 6-Handed Pot Limit Omaha – ROBERT COWEN – US$ 280,916

Running alongside the high roller events was Event #80: $3,000 6-Handed Pot Limit Omaha wherein 496 entered for a prize pool of US$ 1,324,320. Fresh from a deep 39th place run at the Main Event for his first six figure score of US$ 163,900, Wales player Robert Cowen proceeded to rule Day 2 then clinched the title on Day 3. The dream victory earned him his first gold bracelet and another six digit score of US$ 280,916. Cowen joined past Wales champions Mansour Matloubi and Roberto Romanello, becoming the third player to bring home the gold for the country.

To capture the coveted prize, Cowen crushed Day 2, topping the 24 survivors list with a massive stack of 140 BB. The only Asian player that reached the money was Kosei Ichinose in 41st place for US$ 6,664. Once the final table was reached, Cowen was still going strong up top and was joined by some stiff competition in 4x bracelet winner Mike Matusow and series PLO winner Dylan Weisman. Also in the lineup was Uri Reichenstein who was on his third final table.

Matusow and Karel Mokry were the first to get the boot with Robert Emmerson raking it in. From there, Emmerson’s momentum carried as he shipped pot after pot to overtake Cowen. The lengthy five handed round ended with William Benson falling to Cowen. Shortly after, Weisman’s trip aces were denied by Emmerson’s flush, then Cowen cleaned out Reichenstein to bring about heads up. Cowen opened with a slight edge and widened to a sizable lead but Emmerson was not one to go down easy. His efforts tightened the gap until Cowen slammed the brakes and answered back with a victorious flush.
