Derick Elomina discovered poker at 14, playing home games with his high school friends. What began as a pastime quickly grew into a passion that shaped his career. By 21, he entered the poker industry as a field reporter — just old enough to step foot inside the casino. Starting as a hand reporter, he steadily honed his craft, blending sharp observation with growing writing skills. Known for his dedication, he constantly roams the floor to capture the action, conduct interviews, and deliver live updates. With a strong commitment to the game and a passion for telling poker’s stories, Derick continues to build his path in the industry.

Vietnamese poker standout Nguyen Le has firmly established himself among the world’s elite players, with over $4,851,686 in live tournament earnings and a coveted WSOP bracelet under his belt. Le’s biggest career score came at the 56th World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, where he captured the $50,000 No Limit Hold’em High Roller 8-Handed (Event #88) for $2,686,913, solidifying his global reputation. Just a week earlier, he had already proven his consistency by winning the $3,500 BetMGM Championship for $777,777, making it clear that his success was no fluke.

From Vietnam To MIT And The Poker World

Raised in Vietnam , Le developed an early love for logic and strategy, excelling in chess and mathematics. This analytical mindset later became a foundation for his success at the poker table.

I really enjoyed building things and thinking logically. Chess and math came very naturally to me.

Le’s first exposure to poker came through free mobile poker apps, where he learned the rules but found limited strategic depth. His real growth began in college, playing small home games with friends who emphasized ranges, fundamentals, and disciplined play. From there, he transitioned into online tournaments, gradually moving to live cash games and high-stakes events.

Poker is more about logical deduction than math. You’re constantly thinking about what others would do next.

In 2017, Le moved to the U.S. to attend high school in Utah and later earned admission to MIT, graduating in 2023 with a degree in Computer Science. His academic background has helped him approach the game with precision and a methodical mindset.

WSOP Bracelet Breakthrough

Le’s defining poker moment came when he took a calculated shot at the WSOP $50,000 High Roller shortly after his BetMGM win.

It’s not recommended, but I told myself I’d take one shot.

The risk paid off, earning him a WSOP bracelet and the largest payout of his career. Despite the life-changing victory, Le remains grounded, focusing on long-term improvement and smart investing rather than lifestyle changes.

For me, it’s always about playing the game.

First-Time WPT Cambodia Appearance

At World Poker Tour (WPT) Cambodia 2026, Le is making his series debut and experiencing live tournament poker in Cambodia for the first time. He pointed out clear differences between Asian and Western poker environments, particularly in player tendencies and table dynamics.

It’s softer here in Asia. The environment is quieter compared to the U.S.

Le has already made an early mark at the festival by winning his first WPT Cambodia trophy in the Hyper Turbo Mini High Roller . While the event drew a small field, the victory still marked an important milestone as his first title on the WPT Cambodia stage.

Off the felt, Le has embraced the relaxed pace of the host country. The overall experience, combined with the quality of the venue and organization, has made a strong impression as he now shifts focus to competing in the WPT Prime Cambodia Championship.

Compared to Vietnam, the atmosphere feels much calmer and more relaxed.

A Rising Force In Global Poker

With a WSOP bracelet, multiple seven-figure scores, and a growing presence on the international stage, Nguyen Le continues to establish himself as one of poker’s most dangerous young competitors. His debut at WPT Cambodia marks another key step in a career defined by discipline, logic, and fearless decision-making.

Le now travels back and forth between Asia and the United States, carefully selecting tournaments as he continues to build his resume. Poker remains his clear focus, and he has no plans to slow down anytime soon.

That mindset was on display again at WPT Prime Cambodia 2026, where Le advanced from Day 1B with 45,000 chips. While the stack may be short, it is familiar territory for him. Just months ago, he was reduced to two-thirds of a big blind before mounting a comeback to win the BetMGM Championship for $777,777.

Still early in his career, Nguyen Le has already shown an ability to survive, adapt, and capitalize when it matters most. Whether in Asia or the U.S., he continues to prove that no stack is too small and no stage too big.
