Inside INSPIRE: Exploring the New Home of WPT Seoul

When the inaugural WPT Seoul begins on October 30, the tournament will arrive at a venue very different from the established poker rooms that regularly host major festivals around Asia.

INSPIRE Entertainment Resort only officially opened in 2024, following an initial development costing approximately USD 1.6 billion. Built on Yeongjong Island in Incheon, the huge integrated resort includes three hotel towers, a foreigner-only casino, a 15,000-seat arena, shopping, restaurants, nightlife and some of the most distinctive entertainment spaces in South Korea.

Poker is now becoming a permanent part of that mix. The new YY Poker Club is taking shape inside INSPIRE, with the World Poker Tour set to provide its first major international test when WPT Seoul runs from October 30 to November 9.

For players travelling to South Korea , that makes this more than the arrival of another tournament series. WPT Seoul will also be the poker world’s first proper introduction to a resort built on a scale that is difficult to appreciate until you are actually inside it.

From Airport Runway to Poker Table

INSPIRE began welcoming guests with a soft opening in November 2023 before officially celebrating its grand opening in March 2024. At the centre of the property are 1,275 hotel rooms spread between the Forest, Sun and Ocean Towers, surrounded by enough dining and entertainment to make INSPIRE feel closer to its own small district than a conventional casino hotel.

One of the biggest advantages for international poker players becomes obvious before they even arrive. INSPIRE sits on Yeongjong Island, the same island as Incheon International Airport, with the journey from the airport taking around 15 minutes by car. Complimentary shuttle services connect the resort with both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, so there is no long journey across Seoul waiting at the end of a flight.

For anyone who has travelled around Asia chasing tournament series, that convenience matters. Once checked in, there is little reason to repeatedly travel elsewhere during the festival, with the hotel, poker room, casino, restaurants, bars and entertainment all within the same resort.

WPT Seoul players who want to stay on site also have access to special accommodation rates starting from KRW 220,000 per night. For an 11-day festival, being able to move between your room and the poker tables without ever needing a taxi is a fairly compelling argument for staying put.

A Resort That Doesn’t Feel Built Around the Casino

The casino may be an important part of INSPIRE, but walking around the property does not feel like moving through a resort where everything else has simply been attached to a gaming floor.

The clearest example is Aurora, a 150-metre indoor entertainment street covered by a vast LED canopy. The ceiling and walls become part of scheduled digital shows throughout the day, leading towards the Rotunda and its kinetic chandelier constructed from 156 LED panels.

Beyond it sits the 15,000-seat INSPIRE Arena, built for major concerts, sporting events and award ceremonies, while elsewhere around the resort are Splash Bay beneath its huge glass dome, Discovery Park, INSPIRE Mall and Le Space, a 6,600-square-metre interactive media art exhibition.

None of those are going to convince a poker player to fire a KRW 8 million Super High Roller, but they become considerably more appealing once you are several days into a festival. Anyone who has spent a week or two moving between a hotel room and a tournament floor will know the value of having somewhere different to disappear for a few hours, particularly after an early elimination.

It also makes INSPIRE a much easier destination for players travelling with partners, friends or family. Poker might be the reason for the trip, but it certainly does not have to occupy everyone else’s day.

Eating and Drinking at INSPIRE

That same scale extends to the food. Rather than relying on a couple of casino restaurants for 11 days, players have a broad collection of restaurants, cafés, bars and lounges spread throughout the resort.

Chef’s Kitchen offers an international buffet, Minagi focuses on Japanese cuisine, and Hi-Fi Korean Soul Food provides a more casual option for Korean dishes. MJ23 Sports Bar & Grill should be another natural meeting point during the series, particularly for anyone trying to keep one eye on the football while discussing how their aces somehow failed to survive again.

There are plenty of quicker options around INSPIRE Mall as well, while Aurora Bar and Horizon Lounge offer somewhere to have a drink when the poker is finished for the night. It is hardly the headline attraction of WPT Seoul, but over a long festival, not having to eat the same room-service club sandwich for the sixth time begins to feel like a luxury in itself.

Inside INSPIRE Casino

INSPIRE’s casino opened in February 2024 after the resort received South Korea’s first new foreigner-only casino licence in 19 years. Spread across two levels, it is the country’s largest foreigner-only casino and includes traditional table games, electronic gaming, slot machines, VIP areas and dedicated dining facilities.

The “foreigner-only” distinction is important for anyone unfamiliar with gambling in South Korea. With very limited exceptions, the country’s casinos are restricted to overseas visitors, meaning international players attending WPT Seoul can access INSPIRE Casino while most Korean nationals cannot.

For WPT Seoul, however, the more interesting development is happening beyond the existing casino floor. INSPIRE is not simply clearing enough space for tournament tables and putting everything back once the festival ends. It is opening a permanent poker club, with WPT Seoul effectively serving as its international introduction.

80 Tables and a New Home for Poker

There is still an element of mystery surrounding YY Poker Club, simply because the finished room has not yet been unveiled. That will change before WPT Seoul, but the official WPT Seoul website already gives a much clearer picture of INSPIRE’s ambitions for poker.

The club will feature 80 tables, with regular cash games and weekly tournaments planned beyond WPT Seoul, alongside dedicated livestream facilities. In other words, this is not a room being built for one festival and then forgotten about once the WPT banners come down.

The surrounding entertainment space is also being designed with the player experience in mind. Ultra Lounge will offer complimentary access to WPT players throughout the festival, with nightly entertainment planned away from the tables and the official WPT Welcome Players Party also set to take place there. Daia adds another side to the setup, with four private rooms designed for VIP and high roller gaming.

Taken together, it makes WPT Seoul feel less like a tournament temporarily moving into INSPIRE and more like the opening act for something the resort wants to build over the longer term.

Whether YY Poker Club eventually develops into a regular stop for major Asian tours remains to be seen, but the starting point is certainly unique: an 80-table poker room inside a USD 1.6 billion resort, minutes from one of Asia’s busiest international airports, making its debut with one of poker’s best-known tournament brands.

WPT Seoul Gets the First Shot

The first cards will be dealt on October 30, beginning an 11-day WPT Seoul festival that runs through November 9.

The full WPT Seoul schedule features 45 tournaments, with buy-ins starting at KRW 300,000 and climbing to KRW 8,000,000 for the Super High Roller. Bounty tournaments, PLO, high rollers, turbos and lower-priced side events fill the days in between.

At the centre of everything is the KRW 1 billion guaranteed WPT Seoul Championship. The KRW 1,750,000 event runs from November 5 to 9, with four starting flights before the surviving players combine for Day 2 and eventually play down to the inaugural champion.

There is also something waiting beyond the trophy and prize money. The winner will receive a USD 10,400 entry to the 2026 WPT World Championship, giving the first WPT Seoul champion the chance to carry their run in Korea all the way to the tour’s season-ending showpiece.

Players do not necessarily need to wait until arriving in Korea to secure their place either. Online WPT Seoul satellites are already running, alongside live qualification routes in Hong Kong and Manila.

Can INSPIRE Become a New Asian Poker Destination?

South Korea hardly needs an introduction to major international poker. Incheon has hosted large festivals for years, with APT Incheon 2026 attracting 14,059 entries at Paradise City in August. Just a few weeks later, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour returned to Incheon for its first South Korean festival in seven years.

Jeju has become another major part of the country’s poker calendar, with the APT Jeju 2026 festival set to offer 136 trophy events and more than KRW 5.2 billion in guarantees from September 25 to October 7.

The interesting part of WPT Seoul, then, is not whether international players will travel to South Korea for poker. They already do, and in increasingly large numbers. The question is whether INSPIRE can give them a reason to keep coming back to this particular corner of it.

On paper, plenty is working in its favour. Incheon International Airport is almost on the doorstep, there are more than a thousand hotel rooms on site, and players can spend an entire festival eating, drinking and finding things to do without repeatedly leaving the resort. More importantly for poker, INSPIRE is committing permanent space to the game rather than simply providing a temporary tournament hall.

There are things we will only know once YY Poker Club opens and the first big field starts moving through its 80 tables. A beautiful new room is one thing; running a major international festival smoothly is another.
