Biography & Poker Background
Joseph Antar represents Australia and is based in Sydney.
Although Antar is now best known for his tournament results, he has described himself as primarily a cash-game player for much of his poker career. He has said that he originally started playing pub poker, with larger Australian tournaments providing something to aspire to as he became more involved in the game.
His recorded tournament results date back to at least 2019. That year brought an early breakthrough when he reached the final table of the Sydney Champs Main Event at The Star Sydney and finished third for AUD 159,566.
Antar made his first recorded Aussie Millions cash in January 2020, finishing 40th in the Opening Event at Crown Melbourne. Later that year, he won the AUD 2,500 Marconi Christmas Cup High Roller at what is now Poker Palace Sydney for AUD 75,000.
His Australian tournament record continued to develop during 2021 and 2022. Results included fifth place in the Australian Poker Tour Gold Coast Goliath, fourth in a WPT League Gold Coast event, runner-up in the Marconi Christmas Cup Super High Roller and fourth in the WPTDeepStacks Sydney $5K Challenge.
Antar also expanded his schedule internationally during 2022, recording multiple WSOP cashes in Las Vegas. His best live WSOP result that summer came in the $3,000 Six-Handed No-Limit Hold’em event, where he finished 47th for $11,911.
His tournament results moved to another level during 2025. Antar reached the final table of the WPT Prime Gold Coast Championship before winning The Centurion, The Trojan and the Sydney Champs High Roller over the following two months.
Antar has attributed part of that improvement to spending more time studying tournament poker. Following his 2026 Aussie Millions victory, he explained that he had mainly considered himself a cash player but had been studying tournaments more seriously for the previous couple of years.
Six years after recording his first Aussie Millions cash, Antar returned to Crown Melbourne for the festival’s comeback in 2026 and won the $5K Challenge. The AUD 482,405 victory was more than twice the size of his previous career-best cash and took his recorded live earnings beyond $1.2 million.

Play Style & Strategy
Antar has spoken publicly about how his background in cash games has shaped his approach to No-Limit Hold’em tournaments.
He believes his experience in cash games gives him an advantage during the earlier stages of tournaments, where deeper stacks create situations more similar to the games he spent much of his career playing. Antar said that adding more tournament-specific study over the past few years helped him become more comfortable with the different situations that arise as events progress.
His comments after winning the Aussie Millions $5K Challenge also showed an emphasis on process rather than becoming focused on the final result. Antar said he never reached a stage where he assumed he was going to win the tournament and instead tried to remain aware of each situation as it developed, noting the volatility involved in tournament poker.
The mental side of heads-up play was another subject Antar discussed after winning The Trojan at the 2025 Australian Poker Open.
Antar entered heads-up play against Noel Jaber with a large chip advantage. He had experienced previous tournaments where momentum shifted after holding a commanding lead and said it was important not to become discouraged when that happened.
That lesson was relevant during The Trojan, where Antar initially stretched his advantage before Jaber found multiple double-ups. Antar eventually regained control and won the title when his pocket kings held against Jaber’s ace-deuce.
Antar was also candid about the role luck played in reaching heads-up. He described two major pots against Weiran Pu as fortunate, including a hand in which he turned a wheel before taking over the chip lead.
His 2026 Aussie Millions victory provided another example of Antar navigating a large-field tournament after moving beyond his traditional cash-game focus. He reached the final table from a 464-entry field before defeating Cassell heads-up to secure the biggest tournament result of his career.
