Azerbaijani player Khayal Abbasov is putting his country on the poker map in the best way possible. One of just a few Azerbaijani poker savants, Abbasov bolted out of the gates strong, placing first during his maiden tournament. Abbasov swept the Freezeout Event #4 at APPT Cambodia, cashing in USD 3,026.
Abbasov returned to Cambodia the following year with even more success, cashing in a total of USD 11,517 at the WPT Cambodia Championship. The Azerbaijani poker prodigy then ventured into Malaysia, making big sweeps at Poker Dream 9.
However, Abbasov’s most impressive victory came in May 2024 when he placed second in the VPL Kick-Off Event #1 at the 2024 Vietnam Poker League Summer Series Hanoi, increasing his live earnings by VND 500,000,000 (USD 19,698) for a grand total of USD 50,573.
