WPT Taiwan announcement

The World Poker Tour announced their partnership with Chinese Texas Hold’em Association to host WPT Taiwan. The festival will be held from 12th to 22nd July 2019 in Taipei City and will offer buy-ins ranging from TWD 4,000 to TWD 55,000. The TWD 30,000 (USD 972) Main Event will run from 17th to 21st July.

“Taiwan is a great country, and people here are filled with passion, with lots of shopping and fine dining places, along with amazing poker,” said David Tai, CEO, CTP. “Streets here are clean and safe, with heightened security. All of these attractions make Taiwan one of the hottest travelling spots in the world!”

Angelica Hael, VP of Global Tour Management for the World Poker Tour, added, “Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association is an exciting venue and the World Poker Tour looks forward to partnering with their fantastic team. The WPT continues to expand into the Asia-Pacific and WPT Taiwan will be another spectacular event to highlight the best the region has to offer.”

More events in Asia

Danny McDonagh revealed in a conversation with Somuchpoker.com that there will be 2-3 more WPT stops announced for Asia-Pacific, though he did not shed light on which locations these may be.

Danny McDonagh mentioned that places like Taiwan and Vietnam are important as they are easily accessible and cheap to fly to. His hope are high for the Philippines as well.

The new WPT season running from June to May will have all the usual stops like India, Japan, Korea and New Zealand and on top of the freshly announced Taiwan and Vietnam stops, hopes are high for three additional ones in the region.
