Negreanu and Leatherman tie the knot

In one of the biggest events of the year for celebrity players in the poker world, outspoken Twitter enthusiast Daniel Negreanu married Amanda Leatherman. The couple said their vows as fellow players Phil Hellmuth, David Benyamine, Antonio Esfandiari and Jennifer Tilly looked on. It is unclear whether Negreanu went through with his last longer marriage bet with Shaun Deeb after the players put forward the idea during a Twitter feud, but the newlywed couple looked extremely happy on their special day. The pair got engaged on New Year’s Eve, after having an on-off relationship over several years.

Jungleman feels confident

Poker player Russel Thomas brought us a little gem of a comment this week from the mouth of Daniel “Jungleman12” Cates. Clearly feeling a bit annoyed with the glowing praise being heaped on a man who rarely seems to play much poker these days, Cates responded wittily to a question about Phil Ivey. When asked what it was like to play against one of the greatest and most talented players of all-time, Cates responded with “Why don’t you ask him?”.

Perhaps Cates is angling to kick-start a new challenge, with the durrr debacle still rumbling on, only this time against someone who might actually pay up if they lose.

Negreanu infuriates the poker world. Again.

For the second time in quick succession, Daniel Negreanu has created two of Somuchpoker’s three interesting weekly headlines. Given his lack of success when aiming for a hat-trick of WSOP bracelets, it isn’t a complete surprise to see the Canadian aiming for a more attainable hat-trick of news headlines. Speaking of players who are finding poker hard, Negreanu has been busy naming some this week. When asked about the top 100 players on the all-time money list and whether some might be losing players, he responded with his usual tact and diplomacy, openly naming four people.

According to Negreanu, there is a good chance that Ike Haxton, Dominik Nitsche, Dan Shak and Sean Winter have lost money playing high roller tournaments. He defended himself against the storm of criticism which followed by saying he was simply making a statement about variance. But, in a world where players sell action and reputations are important, some players were understandably annoyed. Dominik Nitsche himself responded to the naming on Twitter and earned himself a half-hearted apology, which is more than anyone else gets from Negreanu after an abrasive Twitter comment.
