My journey in the world of poker (and later casino, sportsbetting) started more than 20 years ago, when I first attended a low-stakes live tournament. I’ve never looked back since, and have been active in several fields, including being a poker player, a live tournament director, writing online and offline articles about poker, and managing the localization of one of the world's largest online poker rooms. Poker is my home ground, I could never imagine doing a job that is not a part of it. I hope someday I’ll have more time to play live; that's something I've missed in the past few years. A game where luck meets skill - what would be more interesting?

Hard Rock Las Vegas construction news: guitar-shaped casino and resort expected to open in 2027

If you’ve walked down the Las Vegas Strip lately, you already know the city’s famous skyline is changing in a big way. We said goodbye to the classic Mirage, but an exciting new era is officially rising in its place.

The highly anticipated Hard Rock Las Vegas construction is moving incredibly fast. In fact, the project just hit an absolutely massive milestone, sending the whole casino world buzzing.

For those of us who love chasing jackpots and soaking in the Vegas energy, this multi-billion dollar mega-resort is thrilling news. Let’s break down exactly what this property has in store for us when it finally opens its doors.

A Major Hard Rock Las Vegas Construction Update

On May 1, 2026, the building crews celebrated a major event known as the “topping out” of the brand-new tower. If you’re not familiar with building terms, “topping out” simply means the workers have successfully placed the final structural beam at the very highest point of the building.

This means the core steel skeleton of the Hard Rock guitar hotel is officially complete! Standing proud on the former site of the iconic Mirage volcano, this beautiful building reaches an impressive 660 feet into the desert sky.

The new structure features 42 floors and will eventually house between 650 and 675 luxurious rooms just inside the guitar tower alone. It is a huge win for the community, too, as the resort is expected to employ up to 6,000 local residents once it opens.

What Else to Expect from the Hard Rock Guitar Hotel

Overall, once all expansions and room renovations are complete, the resort will offer roughly 3,700 rooms. The Hard Rock guitar hotel is modeled directly after the famous Seminole Hard Rock in Florida, meaning it will feature that classic, high-energy rock-and-roll vibe.

But let’s be honest, as gamblers, we are mostly here for the action! Hard Rock is definitely not holding back when it comes to their brand-new casino gaming space. The property will feature a sprawling 175,000 square feet of pure casino floor magic.

This massive casino gaming space will pack in an incredible 2,000 slot machines. Whether you love spinning the newest video slots or chasing life-changing progressive jackpots, which are special prizes that grow larger every time a player spins, you will find it here. Plus, if you prefer cards or dice, you can choose from over 200 table games set against a thrilling musical backdrop.

If you’re wondering how this new playground stacks up against the other big properties on the Las Vegas Strip, you are in for a treat. It is specifically designed to be one of the largest and most spacious casino floors in town.

Here is a quick look at how the future Hard Rock footprint compares to some of its legendary neighbors:

Hard Rock Las Vegas (Future)175,000 sq. ft
MGM Grand161,800 sq. ft.
Bellagio156,000 sq. ft.

When Will the Hard Rock Las Vegas Construction Finish?

So, when can we actually sit down, order a drink, and place our bets? According to Joe Lupo, President of Hard Rock Las Vegas, his team expects to be handed the keys in about a year and a half. The grand opening is officially targeted for the fourth quarter of 2027.

The entire Hard Rock Las Vegas construction project is a massive undertaking, with total costs estimated to fall between $4 billion and $5 billion. Hard Rock International and Seminole Gaming originally bought the Mirage from MGM back in December 2022 for over $1 billion.

After the Mirage closed its doors in July 2024, the crews immediately got to work, eventually expanding the site’s footprint by a staggering 1.4 million square feet. We will continue to bring you the latest updates as this incredible property nears completion. Start saving up your bankroll now, because 2027 is going to be an unforgettable year for Vegas.
