Poker Dream releases Hoi An, Vietnam full schedule featuring ₫16 BN in guarantees

The Asian live poker circuit has never been so vibrant with an abundance of exciting developments taking place this year. The latest was the emergence of an ambitious new brand, Poker Dream, created by well known poker figure Winfred Yu. In July, the brand debuted in Malaysia becoming the first to ever host an international poker series in the country. The ground-breaking festival was a big hit as locals came out in full force and dominated the charts. In the end, it paid out a stunning US$ 3 Million with the Main Event and Super High Roller pulling the heaviest weights of nearly US$ 1.5 million combined.

Keeping the hype alive, Poker Dream immediately followed this up with the announcement of an event in Hoi An, Vietnam, another new destination for poker enthusiasts. This is to be the first international poker event in the charming coastal town. Like the inaugural event, players can expect some of Asia’s best to participate. WSOP bracelet winner Danny Tang (Hong Kong) is the first to confirm attendance with a high chance of seeing other past attendees David Erquiaga (Philippines), Phachara Wongwichit (Thailand), Pete Chen (Taiwan), Webster Lim (Malaysia), and Bryan Huang (Singapore).

Poker Dream Vietnam takes place from October 14 to 23 at the five-star Hoiana Hotel & Suites. The full schedule has also been released featuring a 28-game lineup and VN₫ 16 Billion in guarantees. Buy ins range from the highest of VN₫ 350,000,000 (~US$ 14,760) to a more affordable VN₫ 6,000,000 (~US$ 250).

Let’s take a closer look at what the lineup entails.

Main Event guarantee boosted to VN₫ 10,000,000

At the inaugural Poker Dream Malaysia, the Main Event nearly tripled its guarantee for a prize pool of ~US$ 640K. Expectedly, it drew plenty of attention that an alteration has been made for the upcoming Vietnam series. The Main Event guarantee, initially announced as an VN₫ 8BN guarantee, has now been boosted to a minimum VN₫ 10 Billion (~US$ 421,760) prize pool. This is the largest Vietnam Main Event guarantee offered by any brand. The series headliner takes place from October 20 to 23 with two starting days plus an evening turbo starting flight. Buy in is VN₫ 25,000,000 (~US$ 1,050).

Other Guaranteed Events

In addition to the Main Event, the ten-day festival will see two other events pack the tables courtesy of substantial guarantees. The games open with the Warm Up VN₫ 1 Billion GTD which runs back to back with the Megastack VN₫ 2 Billion GTD. Make sure to lock them up on your calendars.

Warm Up – VN₫ 1 Billion GTD – October 14 to 15 – Buy in VN₫ 8,000,000 (~US$ 340)
Megastack – VN₫ 2 Billion GTD – October 15 to 17 – Buy in VN₫ 15,000,000 (~US$ 630)

High Roller and Short Deck events

There are several reasons for the biggest names in Asian poker to descend upon the Poker Dream felt, one of them is the appealing High Roller event lineup. Six are listed with buy ins from VN₫ 30,000,000 (~US$ 1,265) to a whopping price tag of VN₫ 250,000,000 (~US$ 10,540).

High Roller Freezeout – October 14 to 15 – Buy in VN₫ 70,000,000 (~US$ 2,950)
High Roller Single Day – October 17 and 19 – Buy in VN₫ 100,000,000 (~US$ 4,190)*
Super High Roller – October 18 to 19 – Buy in VN₫ 230,000,000 (~US$ 9,640)*
High Roller – VN₫ 3 Billion GTD – October 22 to 23 – Buy in VN₫ 60,000,000 (~US$ 2,530)
Mini High Roller – October 23 – Buy in VN₫ 30,000,000 (~US$ 1,265)

Another reason is the Short Deck Ante Only events. Although this hasn’t been too popular amongst the masses, it continues to be a game enjoyed by the world’s elite. Therefore it comes as no surprise to see the buy ins at VN₫ 70,000,000 (~US$ 2,930)* for the single day and VN₫ 120,000,000 (~US$ 5,030)* for the two day event.

Other Events

On the more affordable side of the spectrum are a slew of games with buy ins ranging from VN₫ 6,000,000 (~US$ 250) to VN₫ 15,000,000 (~US$ 630). Among them are NLH crowd favorites Deepstack, 6-Handed, Monster Stack, Turbos, KO, and a Mystery Bounty tournament which has been introduced to nearly every Asian festival roster this year. For players seeking other variants, there are two Pot Limit Omaha events and one Short Deck Ante Only scheduled.
