Yan Shing Tsang, better known in the poker world as Anson Tsang, is a professional player from Hong Kong who has made history for his home country. Since starting out in social games online, he has climbed the ranks to become Hong Kong’s only three-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner. According to The Hendon Mob, Yan Shing Tsang has won over $4.2 million in live tournament earnings. His biggest single score came early in his career in 2013, when he finished 7th in the massive Asia Millions Main Event in Macau for $921,004.
Tsang is most famous for his incredible success at the World Series of Poker. He became the first player from Hong Kong to win a gold bracelet in 2018, taking down a €2,200 Pot Limit Omaha event in Europe for $105,428. He proved this was no fluke by winning a second bracelet in 2020 during the WSOP Online $500 Deepstack for $150,460. In 2022, he completed his hat-trick by winning a third bracelet in another €2,000 Pot Limit Omaha event. Beyond his bracelets, he also owns a WSOP Circuit ring, which he won in a 2020 online series.

Yan Shing Tsang first discovered poker in 2008 in a very modern way, playing Zynga Poker on Facebook. He quickly moved from play money to real stakes after realizing how much he enjoyed the strategy and the thrill of winning. For the first several years of his career, Tsang was primarily a cash game player, grinding the high-stakes games in Macau and throughout Asia.
He actually took a long break from live tournaments between 2011 and 2017 to focus entirely on those profitable cash games. It was only in 2017 that he decided to start traveling internationally to play the global tournament circuit. This shift in focus turned out to be a brilliant move, as he quickly became one of the most successful players in Asian poker history. Despite his massive success, he remains down-to-earth and often spends his free time watching movies or playing video games.

Tsang is widely considered a mixed games expert, with a particular specialty in Pot Limit Omaha (PLO). While many players struggle to switch between different types of poker, Tsang thrives on the variety. He has stated that he finds “action” games like PLO and 2-7 Triple Draw much more exciting than standard No Limit Hold’em because there are more ways to connect with the board and outplay opponents.
His strategy is built on patience and adaptability. He believes that tournament success requires a player to constantly change gears based on their stack size and the stage of the event. At the table, he is known for a calm and professional demeanor, rarely letting his emotions show. However, he is also a very human player; in a famous incident at the 2024 WSOP, he overslept and lost 97% of his chips while his stack was blinded away, yet he still managed to show up and keep a positive attitude about the “pay jumps” he made while sleeping.
