Niall Farrell is a legendary Scottish professional poker player who has long been the face of the game in his home country. Known for his sharp wit and fun-loving attitude at the table, he is one of the few players in history to win poker’s “Triple Crown”, securing titles in the World Series of Poker (WSOP), the World Poker Tour (WPT) , and the European Poker Tour (EPT) . Currently sitting at the very top of Scotland’s all-time money list, Farrell has built a career defined by both huge live wins and massive success in the online world.

Career Earnings & Biggest Results

With total live tournament earnings of nearly $7.5 million (according to The Hendon Mob), Farrell is a giant of the European poker scene.

His most significant payday came in 2017 at the World Series of Poker Europe, where he won the €25,000 High Roller for $867,591 and his first gold bracelet. This win was extra special because it completed his Triple Crown. He also holds a massive 1st-place finish from the 2015 EPT Malta Main Event, worth $588,211, and a WPT Caribbean title from 2016 for $335,000. Proving his skills haven’t slowed down, he recently took 3rd in a 2025 WSOP $5,000 6-Handed event for $398,409.

Biography & Poker Background

Originally from Dumfries, Scotland, Farrell’s journey into poker started when he was just 14 years old. He stumbled upon the show Late Night Poker on Channel 4 while staying up late to watch wrestling and was immediately hooked. He later went to the University of Stirling to study business law, where he began playing with his housemates and grinding online.

His career almost ended before it truly began; at one point, he was having such a bad run that he had to borrow money from his girlfriend to keep going. Just as he was thinking about quitting, he won $33,000 in an online tournament and never looked back. Under the screen name “firaldo87”, he became a global online crusher with millions in winnings. Despite his fame, he remains very proud of his Scottish roots and now lives in Glasgow with his partner and son.

Play Style & Strategy

Farrell is widely known for his aggressive and unpredictable play style. While many of today’s pros are very quiet and serious, Niall uses his quick wit and humor to engage with other players. This isn’t just for fun; his table talk often helps him pick up information and psychological clues that others might miss.

He has a very strong background in mathematics and logic thanks to his law studies, which helps him calculate complex odds in his head. However, he also relies heavily on his intuition and table feel. He is famous for his composure, even after big losses, and he treats poker as a strategic game that should still be enjoyable. His ability to adapt to both online “math-heavy” games and live “people-reading” games is what has kept him at the top of the Scotland money list for so long.
