Australian Joshua McCully has been playing Poker since he was 19, first as a pastime, but soon the Aussie’s interest got him serious enough to play online tournaments hosted outside of Australia to augment his income as a working student at university. So serious was McCully about the sport that he participated in a 2017 government hearing to revoke Australia’s Interactive Gambling Bill of 2001, which effectively bans online gambling, including poker, in the country.

McCully’s early success had come from online poker after all. While it is still banned in Australia, McCully shifted gears to live events and captured his first title at The Championships 2017, Sydney Main Event Warm Up. His next milestone was in December of 2018 with a deep run, finishing 4th at the World Series of Poker International Circuit Sydney No Limit Hold’em $5K Challenge Event. He bagged his first top cash of $62,833. McCully would focus his professional efforts for the next few years on World Series of Poker (WSOP) ONLINE Events.

Career Earnings & Biggest Results

With over $2.6 million in total live earnings and ranked among the top 20 on Australia’s All-Time Money List, according to The Hendon Mob, Joshua McCully has become a well-known Australian professional poker player around the globe and is considered a dominant force in the Asian high-stakes circuit.

His career reached new heights in early 2024 when he secured his best live cash to date during a massive run in Cambodia.

Notable tournament results include:

  • 2nd place in the WPT Main Event at WPT Cambodia Championship (2024) for $277,291
  • 1st place in the Billionaire Club Challenge at USOP Da Nang (2024) for VND 6,550,000,000 (~$264,266)
  • 2nd place in the Triton One High Roller at Triton One Jeju (2025) for $226,000
  • 3rd place in the High Roller 6-Max (Online Bracelet Event #16) at WSOP Online (2025) for $145,200
  • 1st place in the Superstar Challenge at USOP Da Nang (2024) for VND 3,222,800,000 (~$130,118)

These top-tier finishes in “Billionaire” and “Superstar” branded events have cemented his reputation as a high-stakes specialist and significantly boosted his poker net worth.

Biography & Poker Background

Originally from Brisbane, Australia, Joshua McCully has transitioned from a successful online grinder to one of the most feared live tournament players in the Asia-Pacific region. While he is a staple of Australian events like the Aussie Millions and APL Million, he has recently focused his efforts on the burgeoning Asian market. He is a regular at major festivals, including the Asian Poker Tour (APT), U Series of Poker (USOP), and Triton Poker, consistently outperforming elite international fields.

Play Style & Strategy

Joshua McCully is recognized for his immense volume and tactical versatility across both No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha.
