He topped a 527-entry field in the AUD 5,000 WPT Australia Championship Event , which generated an AUD 2,424,200 prize pool. Thompson defeated Filip Radic heads-up to collect AUD 450,900 ($325,539) and the biggest title of the festival.
The victory comfortably surpassed Thompson’s previous career-best score of AUD 31,244 ($20,147), earned when he finished runner-up in a WSOP International Circuit Deepstack at The Star Gold Coast in November 2025.
Thompson remained at the festival following that runner-up finish and won the AUD 1,000 Survivor Bounty several days later for AUD 21,995 ($14,306), earning a WSOP Circuit ring.
Earlier in 2025, he won an Australian Poker League Poker Tour Monster Stack in Sydney for AUD 14,430 ($9,082) and finished fourth in a 976-entry Kings Cup Series Mini Main Event for AUD 12,000 ($7,686).

He said that he tries to keep his emotions relatively consistent at the table rather than reacting strongly to individual runouts, even when major hands go his way.
Thompson also acknowledged that favorable cards played a significant role during the final table, saying he had not faced many particularly difficult decisions and describing his run as “sun running.”
His final-day performance nevertheless included several important pots. Thompson extracted three streets of value with a queen-high straight against Huang before eliminating her shortly afterward.
He later eliminated Sweet with pocket nines and applied significant pressure to Bhatt three-handed, moving all-in with ace-seven after Bhatt three-bet with ace-queen and forcing the better hand to fold.
Thompson eventually entered heads-up play with roughly 22 million chips against Radic’s four million. He maintained the advantage before calling Radic’s final shove with jack-ten, which held against six-five suited to secure the title.
