City of Dreams Sri Lanka is South Asia’s first fully integrated resort and the most significant casino development in the region in a generation. Opened in August 2025 in the heart of Sri Lanka’s capital, the $1.2 billion property is a joint venture between Sri Lankan conglomerate John Keells Holdings and Macau-based Melco Resorts & Entertainment, the operator behind City of Dreams properties in Macau, Manila, and Cyprus. As the country’s first international-standard gaming destination, it has quickly established itself as the focal point of a growing South Asian poker circuit, with multiple tournament series already hosted across its ballroom facilities.

Venue Features & Environment

  • 16,700 sqm Gaming Floor: The casino occupies Level 6 of the resort and spans approximately 180,000 square feet, housing 119 table games and 250 slot machines. Dedicated poker is offered alongside blackjack, baccarat, and roulette, with Levels 7 and 8 earmarked for future expansion that will make it Sri Lanka’s largest gaming space.
  • 800+ Rooms Across Two Hotels: Accommodation is split between the 687-room Cinnamon Life Hotel and the 113-room ultra-luxury Nüwa hotel, managed by Melco and positioned on the resort’s top floors with direct access to the gaming venue. The two properties give the resort the scale to support major international festival fields.
  • MICE & Tournament Facilities: Expansive ballroom and event space makes the property well suited to hosting large-field poker tournaments independently of the main casino floor, and multiple events have already made use of this setup since the resort opened.

The Player Experience

City of Dreams Colombo operates as a self-contained destination, with 14 restaurants and bars, a spa, outdoor pool, fitness centre, kids’ club, and a retail promenade spanning designer brands and local Sri Lankan boutiques. The all-day dining options, poolside service, and nightlife venues keep the experience within the property for players who prefer not to venture out during a festival. The resort’s position within four hours’ flying time of India, China, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East makes it a natural draw for a regional player base, and the early tournament calendar reflects that - the Royal Spade Poker Tour has already confirmed a 2026 stop at the venue.

Logistics & Access

📍 Address: No. 15 Justice Akbar Mawatha, Colombo 00200, Sri Lanka.

🚗 Getting There: Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) is approximately 35 km from the city centre, around 45 minutes by road depending on traffic. The resort is centrally located in Colombo and accessible by taxi, ride-hailing apps, and hotel transfers.

🎒 Reporter’s Tip: The Nüwa hotel floors offer the most direct access to the gaming and tournament areas. Sri Lanka’s visa-on-arrival policy covers a wide range of nationalities, and the country has recently extended its free visa programme - check eligibility before booking flights.
