Nang Quang Nguyen - SOMUCHPOKER
Nang Quang Nguyễn is a multi-titled poker professional from Vietnam who specializes in high stakes events. Although Nang Quang Nguyễn professional start came in 2008, most of his success has come in the last three years of consistent play crushing through the Vietnam circuit. His total career earnings to date place him 9th in the Vietnam All Time Money List and currently has a GPI National Rank of #14.
Á early as 2008, Nang Quang Nguyễn already made a splash entering live tournament play. In his first recorded tournament at the the Asian Poker Tour Macau, Nang Quang finished 6th to cash a significant amount of $ 52,500. Nang Quang Nguyễn played only one other live tournament that year and would do the same in 2009. The Vietnamese skipped playing for the years 2010-2012 and returned to live felt action in 2013, again playing just a pair of tournaments followed by 3 tournaments in 2014. For these active years, Nang Quang Nguyễn worked the tables around Macau, Manila and Sydney.
Nang Quang Nguyễn again skipped play from 2015-2016. He made a second return in 2017, playing just two tournaments but nonetheless shipped his first title at the National Poker Championship, Da Nang taking down the Main Event for a cash of $ 13,766. 2018 saw a fuller schedule for Nang Quang Nguyễn, capturing 2 more titles. He ruled the Main Events of the National Poker Championship 4, Da Nang and the Asia Poker League Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh for a combined total cash of nearly $88,000. Quang also made a deep run in another Main Event, placing 4th at the Asian Poker Tour Ho Chi Minh to bank an additional $ 47,004 for the year. By this time, Nang Quang Nguyễn had literally and figuratively found home in the Vietnam circuit where his title harvests were consistent.
In 2019, Nang Quang Nguyễn clinched a maiden APT title, winning the Deepstack Turbo Event of the Asian Poker Tour Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh. He also made a final table finish in the Main Event of the same tournament. The following year saw Nang Quang make a significant run outside home soil with a 3rd place finish at the Super High Roller Event of the Red Dragon Manila 2020 before the global lockdown.
Nang Quang Nguyễn’s return to live tournament play after the pandemic in 2021 began with immediate success. Nang Quang shipped his maiden World Poker Tour title, winning the High Roller Event of the WPTDeepStacks Hanoi. He defeated compatriot Trẫn Hùng Mạnh aka Macaron Tran at heads up play, recording not only his first WPT victory but his sixth career title. This would however be the only live tournament for 2021.
Nang Quang Nguyễn would compete with a fuller schedule a year later in April 2022, starting with a runner-up finish in the High Rollers Event of the Asian Poker Tour Phu Quoc banking $17,246. This would be a prelude to another career milestone for Nang Quang Nguyễn. The following month, the Vietnamese snatched title number seven and a second WPT win at the World Poker Tour Prime Vietnam, stamping his class in the Super High Roller Event for a career best cash to date of $75,426. He would also finish deep at the Super High Roller Event to add $21,110 to his tournament earnings. Nang Quang Nguyễn continued to wax hot, doing particularly well in the Asian Poker Festival – APT Summer Festival Hanoi – VSOP 2022. He finished second and third at the Single Day High Rollers and High Rollers Events respectively for a combined cash of more than $28,000. Nang Quang Nguyễn’s total earnings for 2022 was $175,623.
Although the Vietnamese pro did not collect any titles in 2023, he made final tables at 9 events. His best finishes were at the Asian Poker Tour Hanoi, taking third place in the –APT/VSOP Superstar Invitational Event for a $28,555 cash and finishing second in the High Roller Warm Up Event of the WPT Vietnam – Passport to the World Championship, Hanoi to bank $14,062. He continued to be at his best in home tournaments.
While Nang Quang Nguyễn seemed to hit his stride in the three years of live tournament play after the pandemic, 2024 seems to be shaping up as his most promising year as a poker professional. In March, Nang Quang Nguyễn captured his first ever title outside Vietnam, shipping the Mystery Big Bounty Event of the Poker Dream 9 Malaysia for a prize money of $ 24,980 then adding a victory in the Megastack High Roller 8 Max Event of the Hanoi Series Of Poker Championship banking $ 29,662.
Nang Quang Nguyễn continues to tear up the live felt with relentless drive at the tables and to date has already amassed $ 188,213 in current 2024 earnings, already surpassing all previous highs in yearly earnings of his career.
