They call it the land Down Under where poker has been incredibly popular for decades. Through the years, several major live poker operators have hosted festivals in Australia, including the World Poker Tour, which first visited back five years ago.
Since 2019, the WPT has partnered up with The Star Entertainment Group to bring international caliber poker events to Australia. Then starting 2022, the brand began hosting two events at The Star Gold Coast with the Main Tour debuting on September. This year, the WPT has confirmed its fourth consecutive marquee event in the country however there has been an exciting change in venue.
WPT Australia Debuts In Sydney
In late May, the World Poker Tour announced that the 2025 WPT Australia is now set to take place in Sydney, one of the most famous and recognizable cities in the world. Running from September 18 until October 1, 2025 an extensive schedule awaits with a total of 32 trophy events and an estimated AUD 10 million (over 6 Million USD) in festival prize pools. As confirmed by The Star, there will also be a Player and Team of the Festival award and a total of 11 passports to the WPT World Championship festival in Las Vegas in December 2025.
WPT Australia Championship Event

Headline tournament of the stop is most certainly the WPT Australia Championship Event from September 25 until October 1, 2025. The deep structure features three opening flights with a buy-in of AUD 5,500 (~USD 3,560) and ten 60-minute levels on each Day 1 followed by 90-minute levels as of Day 2 until the heads-up stage. One in eight entries – approximately 12.5% of the field – will be in the money and the eventual winner will be etched in history on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup.

The action commences with the affordable AUD 1,500 (~USD 970) Event #1 Australian Poker Cup, which includes two flights and concludes on September 21. By then, Event #6 AUD 1,350 Mystery Bounty is already underway and features the latest craze in the world of live poker with the hunt for the golden envelopes.
Other Highlights
Among the other notable events include the two-day AUD 600 Ladies Australian Championship, the Sydney Monster Stack with a price tag of AUD 1,250, and the WPT World Champs Road to Vegas qualifier on the final two days of the festival.
