WPT Australia 2026 Opening Day: Eddy Hosni Tops Australian Poker Cup Day 1a, Thomas Lee Claims Series First Trophy

WPT Australia 2026 got underway at The Star Sydney on Thursday, September 10, with Day 1A of the AUD 1,150 Australian Poker Cup providing the main attraction.

The opening flight drew 107 entries, while the first trophy of the festival was also awarded as Thomas Lee took down the AUD 500 True Blue Turbo.

Eddy Hosni Leads Australian Poker Cup Day 1A

The Australian Poker Cup saw 19 players survive the opening flight and secure their places in Day 2 on Sunday, September 13.

By the end of play, Eddy Hosni had climbed to the top of the counts with 731,000, finishing ahead of Ricardo Bono on 644,000 and Sam Pantos on 530,000.

Khuynh Nguyen finished fourth with 413,000, just ahead of David Hirst on 405,000, while Alex Thompson, Tolly Sakellariou and Matthew Maks also ended the day with more than 300,000.

Australian Poker Cup Day 1A Top Ten Chip Counts

All 19 survivors will return to The Star Sydney for Day 2 on Sunday, September 13, where they will be joined by the qualifiers from the remaining starting flights. Day 2 is scheduled to play eleven 25-minute levels or until the final table is reached.

Thomas Lee Wins First WPT Australia 2026 Trophy

The first trophy of WPT Australia 2026 was also claimed on the opening day, with Thomas Lee taking down Event #2: AUD 500 True Blue Turbo – One Day Event.

Lee topped a 58-entry field to win AUD 8,067 from the AUD 25,520 prize pool, with only the nine-player final table making the money. Lee defeated Fuan He heads-up for the title, with He collecting AUD 5,379.

WPT Australia 2026 Day 2 Schedule

The second day of the series sees Day 1B of the Australian Poker Cup get underway at 2:30 p.m., following the same structure as the opening flight.

After 16 levels of play, another group of survivors will have punched their ticket to Day 2, continuing their quest to lift a WPT Australia 2026 trophy.

Another piece of silverware will also be awarded by the end of the night, with the AUD 500 Bondi Wave Breaker Freezeout – One Day Event kicking off at 6:30 p.m.

The tournament features a 25,000 starting stack and 20-minute blind levels throughout.
