Asian Poker Tour was one of many land-based poker operators hit hard by the pandemic. Of the eleven festivals scheduled for 2020, only two came to fruition. It has now been six months since their last live event and while the likelihood of a full blown APT festival is still uncertain for 2020, the brand has announced a couple exciting events.

APT x TMT 9

The APT recently released its team up with the Taiwan Millions Tournament (TMT) taking place from October 23 to November 9 at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club). Entering its 9th season, TMT is the most popular local event in Taiwan with its low budget buy-ins. Last season was a total smasher, drawing a record turnout of 1,522 Main Event entries for a $ 351,800 prize pool which was nearly four times the advertised guarantee.

For the upcoming season, the APT brings in more excitement hosting four Special Events out of the 29 game lineup. Two of the events are for the deep pocketed.

  • Event 10: Asian Poker Tour No Limit Hold’em – October 28 – NT$ 5,500 (~US$ 190) buy in
  • Event 21: Asian Poker Tour 6-Max PLO HI – November 3 – NT$ 6,600 (~US$ 225) buy in
  • Event 23: Asian Poker Tour Super High Roller – November 4 – NT$ 33,000 (~US$ 1,130) buy in
  • Event 25: Asian Poker Tour Super High Roller – November 5 – NT$ 33,000 (~US$ 1,130) buy in

APT Vietnam Phu Quoc 2021

Last month, the APT announced its first event of next year with APT Vietnam Phu Quoc 2021 booked from March 17 to 28 at the luxurious Corona Casino & Resort. Although the brand has visited Vietnam numerous times within the past two years, this will be their first venture to Phu Quoc island, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. Phu Quoc is one of the country’s booming tourist destinations with gorgeous white beaches on the Gulf of Thailand.

While the casino and resort launched in January 2019, the Corona Resort Phu Quoc poker room opened for business in June this year. In mid-July, the first ever Corona Poker Championship was held with many Vietnamese players making the trip. Of all the casinos in the country, Corona is the only casino that allows qualified locals to play.

APT Online Series

To answer the call of loyal patrons, the APT held two Online Series festivals at online platform Natural8. The first one ran from April 29 to May 10, the second one from June 14 to June 28. As the brand’s first endeavor into the online scene, it expanded their reach, attracting new players from all over the world. This resulted in record breaking numbers with 3,532 entries for the Main Event and an overall festival prize pool of $ 10,907,771 paid out. To compare, this was over four times the richest live festival hosted by the APT that paid out roughly US$ 2.3 million.

At this time, no announcement has been made on whether or not there will be a third online series before the year ends but if it does happen, it is well worth attending as the APT offers very attractive structures highly revered by players.

While all the live events after APT Taiwan in March have been cancelled up until APT Philippines this September, two festivals are still scheduled: APT Korea – Busan from November 4 to 11 and APT Finale Philippines in early December. If they do push through, for the former, it will be the brand’s first visit to Busan. For the finale, Manila has always been one of the most popular stops of the tour especially with it being the brands’ main hub.
