Michael Kim Falcon leads record-breaking WPT Cambodia Championship, 48 players return for Day 3
The biggest story of Day 2 was Denmark’s Michael Kim Falcon who stole the spotlight early, catapulting to the top after numerous takedowns that included a crucial double bust. Falcon bagged the chip lead with 1,876,000 (125 bb).
On January 25, 2024, Season XXII of the World Poker Tour (WPT) commenced with the most anticipated event – the inaugural WPT Championship in Southeast Asia. In collaboration with boutique gaming company Connaissance Management and NagaWorld Integrated Resorts, this ambitious event attracted players from across the globe to spectacularly crush the USD 1M guarantee and deliver a record-breaking prize pool of USD 2,432,760. This marked the richest prize pool by the WPT in Asia.

Day 2 opened with 231 players led by the highly decorated Thailand pro Punnat Punsri and Japanese heavy hitter Nozomu Shimizu, three WPT Champions were also in the mix – Tony Dunst, Masato Yokosawa, and Hoyt Corkins. Shortly after the dinner break, excitement was at a high with the bubble round at hand. It took one deal to crack. Andrej Desset‘s flopped top pair was outdrawn by Pham Bao’s flush on the turn.
This was quickly followed by early fallouts that included Punsri (89th), Fabian Spielmann‘s with landing a two-outer.
Day 2 wrapped up with 48 players led by Falcon and McCully. In fourth rank was Tony Dunst, the last remaining WPT Champion in the lineup. The next stage – Day 3 – is on Sunday, January 28,2024 starting at 11:30am. The goal is to reach the Final 9.
While a decent return of USD 9,943 is ensured for all the returnees, it is the enormous USD 441,546 top prize and having one’s name immortalized on the coveted Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup that will drive the action. Follow the action via the WPT Live Updates and the SMP Daily Highlights.
