The KPC Poker October Series crowned two of its biggest champions on Friday, October 16, as the action continued at LES A Casino in Jeju, South Korea.

Peng Huang won the 1,082-entry KPC Main Event for KRW 171,873,000 (~USD 128,070), while Eric Tsai took down the King's 60K Super High Roller for USD 1,046,600, the biggest prize of the series so far.

Elsewhere on the KPC schedule, 25K winner Lei Yu leads the 20K Crown Hunt into its Final Day, and Chun Kit Kwan tops the Monster Stack field.

Huang started the final table as chip leader with 6,795,000 and was responsible for the majority of the eliminations on his way to the title, including the knockouts in fifth and fourth.

Kai Hung Hu fell in fifth after moving all in for 2,355,000 from the big blind with king-deuce over a Huang limp. Huang called with pocket nines, and they held on a jack-ace-ten-eight-four board.

Colombia's Sebastian Camilo Toro Henao followed in fourth, moving all in on the button with ace-seven, only to be called by Huang's Big Slick in the small blind. The dry runout brought no help, and Toro Henao collected KRW 58,000,000 (~USD 43,220).

Yilong Wang departed in third, leaving Huang heads-up against Hongjun Zhao.

The final hand saw Zhao open to 550,000 on the button with ace-king of spades, Huang three-bet to 2,000,000 from the big blind with king-queen, and Zhao move all in for 9,650,000.

Huang called, and Zhao's ace-king led through the seven-five-four-jack board until the queen on the river sealed the title for Huang and sparked big celebrations from his rail.

Zhao earned KRW 120,000,000 (~USD 89,420) as runner-up.

Huang Celebrates a “Perfect” Birthday

The win came on a special day for Huang, who revealed after the final hand that he was celebrating his birthday. “Today is a very special day for me, and I’m thrilled because today is my birthday,” he said. “I’ll use the word ‘perfect’. Today was truly perfect.”

The player from Guangdong, who has only been playing poker for two to three years, has attended KPC since its very first edition and called the title the fulfilment of a long-held dream. He thanked his mentor Chen Guangshuo, as well as Tony Lin, who won the 5M High Roller earlier in the week.

Huang’s path to the title was far from smooth. On Day 1A he clashed repeatedly with the same opponent every time his stack reached around 100,000. “This didn’t happen just once or twice. It happened roughly 10 times,” he said. “We later did a rough calculation, and on Day 1 alone, he took away roughly 400,000 chips from me.”

He credited his mindset for getting him through. “Everyone in poker experiences upswings and downswings. Without a good mindset, it’s very difficult to pull through.”
