GPI Asia Festival Jeju Underway In Landing Casino
The live poker activities for 2024 have all but concluded but one further festival is set to take place before the clock runs out for the current year. From December 26 to 30, the GPI Asia Festival Jeju is taking place at the Landing Casino on Jeju Island, South Korea.
GPI Asia Festival Jeju
Four different brands cooperate for this series including GPI Asia, the Master Poker Series (MPS), Global Poker League, and The Hendon Mob Championship (THMC). Poker enthusiasts from mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam and other nearby countries in South East Asia are expected to take part after the Christmas activities have concluded.
GPL Team Event
Across the five days of the festival, eight different tournaments will be hosted. For the first time, the festival will also host a GPL Team Event and several high-profile poker pros have already confirmed their attendance. On top of that, the Red Dragon Poker Room will match the buy-in for each team signed up to double the prize pool and juice up the action.
The Red Dragon team is certainly also the most stacked on paper with Chenxu “Vanessa” Zhang, Weiran “Kevin” Pu, Xixiang Luo and Lei Yu all confirmed. Three of them have at least one gold bracelet to their name, with Yu claiming his maiden title only days ago during 2024 WSOP Paradise on The Bahamas. Poker One sends several teams into the competition, one of which is led by none other than Winfred Yu.
One week ago, Taiwan’s CTP Cafe Team was confirmed captained by Yi-Jun Guo, and supported by Yuan-Ting Fu, Zhong-Cheng Tian, and Wei-Han Tseng. They are joined by Team Dream Room with Kun-Han Lee at the helm, supported by Zhen-Hao Cai, Tian-Yu Lee, and I-Hsuan Liu. They will also battle against Team New Taipei, Zui Cheng Du, RossBro and Zongli Team (CTPZL).
The Team Event headlines the opening two days of the series with an initial Knock Out Round and Semi Final scheduled for December 26, the winners are then crowned one day later. The price tag for the event is KRW 1 Million (~USD 687) with a 15-minute clock and 15,000 chips starting stack.
Opening Day
On the opening day of the series, the first of three flights of the KRW 800,000 (~USD 550) THM Championship kicks off as well. The tournament has a 20-minute clock on each Day 1 with 50,000 in chips and one out of seven players will reach the money. For the final day on December 28, the level duration increases to 30 minutes.
MPS Main Event
The MPS Main Event is the most expensive tournament on the schedule with a price tag of KRW 1.2 Million (~USD 824) and features two regular Day 1 as well as a turbo heat 1c throughout December 28 and 29. A winner will be crowned on the final day of the series to provide poker fireworks on the penultimate day of the year, accompanied by a KRW 800,000 (~USD 550) MPS Mini Main Event and KRW 500,000 (~ USD 343) Hyper Micro Main.
Which team will earn the bragging rights in the GPL Team Event and which nation claims the most trophies to end the year on a high note? One thing is certain: The Landing Casino at Jeju Shinhwa World Marriott Resort has become one of the most popular destinations for poker brands of the Asia-Pacific region.
