The drive for deep understanding that defined Gemmy Tue An’s (real name: Ngoc Huyen Quach ) banking career is the same trait that has fueled her rise in the Asian poker scene and her upcoming partnership with WPT Seoul 2026 .

“I have a personality where, once I start doing something, I want to understand it as deeply as possible.” shared Tue An in an interview with Somuchpoker. “When I lost, I didn’t want to stop at asking, ‘Why did I lose?’ I kept asking, ‘What do I need to do to win?’”

For Tue An, poker started as a casual board game night with friends before evolving into an obsession. That curiosity led her to leave the banking sector, step onto the international circuit, and document her journey through video content and social media.

Somuchpoker caught up with Tue An to discuss her transition from finance, overcoming stereotypes as a female vlogger, and her upcoming goals in South Korea .

Could you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into poker?

I’m Gemmy Tue An, currently based in Hanoi. Before pursuing poker and content creation, I spent eight years working in the priority banking division of a major bank.

I first discovered poker through friends when we were looking for a new game to play. What started as simple entertainment quickly became a passion. I’ve always been someone who wants to understand things deeply, so whenever I wasn’t playing well, I didn’t just ask, “Why did I lose?” I wanted to know, “What do I need to do to win?”

The more I learned, the more I realized that poker is a game you can never truly master, there’s always something new to learn. That curiosity eventually led me to tournament poker and content creation, where I now share my journey and experiences with the poker community.

How do you balance playing live tours with content creation?

My schedule is rarely the same. In 2025 alone, I played 13 international poker tours, averaging at least one trip a month for 10 to 15 days at a time.

When I’m not at a live festival, I work on content, write scripts, translate international poker strategy videos into Vietnamese , and focus on physical fitness at the gym. Poker requires hours of intense concentration, so living a disciplined lifestyle helps me adopt a truly professional approach.

What has been your most memorable tournament experience so far?

My first international trip to the APT Manila Classic 2025 stands out. I won an influencer event called Beat the Pro, which earned me a ticket to the Main Event. I ended up finishing 15th out of sheer instinct, without much formal study under my belt!

Another proud moment was making the final table and finishing 8th at the Philippine Poker Million in 2025 as an invited guest.

What challenges do you face as a female player and vlogger?
In a male-dominated community, people sometimes notice appearance before work ethic. Some assume you’re playing just for attention or image.

Beyond that, I play what I call “wellness mode” poker, I’m not a warrior who can grind weeks straight without a break. I usually take a rest day after every two days of play to reset mentally. Understanding your own limits is key to staying in the game long-term.

How are you addressing the lack of women in the Vietnamese poker scene?
Women often lack suitable environments to learn and practice. I’ve started hosting free poker workshops for women to help create pathways into the community.

My dream is to build a strong female team that can compete internationally and discover new faces to become poker content creators.

I am officially joining WPT Seoul 2026 , which runs from October 30 to November 9 at Inspire Casino in South Korea !

I’ll be acting as a bridge connecting WPT Seoul with the Vietnamese community. My goal is to bring players I’ve trained through my workshops to compete together on the international stage.
