Yu Battles His Way Through The Rounds
As a stock and crypto trader from Beijing, Yu first discovered poker five years ago and still treats it purely as a fun pastime in his spare time. This carefree, happy-go-lucky approach proved to be his greatest asset. Entering through Day 1E Turbo – the very last chance to qualify – Yu shipped a flip with 8♣8♥ to advance to Day 2 with a decent 20 big blinds.

On Day 2, it took over three hours for the bubble to burst with the 237 returnees cut down to 139 ITM players when Dajie Zhuo took the fall. When the game proceeded, Yu spun his stack back up into the top 20, but as the day wrapped up with only 39 players surviving the nine rounds, he finished towards the bottom with only 17 big blinds to his name.

At Day 3, the sleeves were up. Yu opened with a much needed double up and consistently chipped up. Leading up to the final table, the last four players from Vietnam were ousted with Trung Quan Nguyen as the last to fall in 11th place. This led to the final table bubble round that lasted an intensely long three hours. During that time, Yu took advantage of the situation to amass the biggest stack by the time Wenhao Ying was eliminated in 10th place.
Final 9 Race To Victory

The final table was fast and furious lasting a total of just 62 hands. Yu’s fire was absent at the start while Yuefeng Pan took charge. By hand #20, only four players remained. Yu called Pan’s four-bet jam and doubled up to to a massive lead with 10♠10♥ dominating 5♦5♣.
Yu went on to knock out Peng Zhou in 4th place and Pan in 3rd to enter heads up as a 5:1 favorite with 93 bb to 25 bb. The result was decided just eight hands later when Yu jammed K♥7♥ and Haitao Huang called with 8♦8♣. The dealer flipped over 9♠Q♠J♥9♣T♥, giving Yu the bigger straight. his first trophy, and a massive champion’s purse of almost a quarter million US dollars.

That concluded one of the shortest, if not the shortest, Main Event Final 9 in Red Dragon history with seven players banking career high cashes along the way.
