Asian Poker Tour makes its debut in Phu Quoc, Vietnam this May 2021
A budding poker scene, Vietnam has been increasing in popularity within the Asian region as a prime gaming hub in the past few years. Major name brand operators have found success in the Southeast Asian country with its local poker community alone having recently caught the so-called poker bug.
Coming from a strong start this 2021, the Asian Poker Tour has revealed its latest decision to extend its festivities from its usual stop in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam to add in a new mark in the country’s largest island of Phu Quoc. The series about to begin in two weeks time will signify its first ever tour in the coastal area in partnership with Pearl Island Poker Tour (PIPT), Natural8 (N8), and Corona Casino & Resort with likely more to come in the near future.
“We as one of the leaders in the Vietnam poker market are very proud to be a partner of APT to host the APT Vietnam Phu Quoc that will be made specially for locals this coming May 2021,” quoted leader of PIPT Anh Nguyen.
APT Vietnam Phu Quoc 2021
Scheduled to run this May 15, 22-30, APT’s Phu Quoc debut series boasts of a VND 4 billion (~USD 173,653) in guaranteed prizes spread out across a total of 15 events. Entry fees range from VND 5.5 million (~USD 238) for its Deep Stack Turbo events to as high as VND 55 million (~USD 2,386) for its second event, the Super High Roller tournament. Players adept at different variants of the game will be delighted with this year’s lineup which include Open Face Chinese Poker (OFC), Pot Limit Omaha (PLO) and Bounty events aside from the classic No Limit Hold’em.
The week-long festival is unlike any other with its first starting flight for the Main Event to be held online on Asia’s leading platform, Natural8. Online players are also welcome to qualify for the succeeding starting flights via a series of satellites held twice nightly from May 16-21, 2021 on the said client.
The Main Event along with the Championships Event, are the highlights for this APT festival with each posting VND 2 billion (~USD 86,781) in guaranteed prizes. The Main Event will host four starting flights throughout the schedule while the concluding Championships Event will host only two. Multiple live satellites for both events will be running simultaneously to its daily events with buy-ins ranging from VND 1.2 million to VND 3.6 million.
Local players will be the main attention of the series while several travel restrictions remain in place in light of the ongoing global health situation. However with the recent success of past events in the country, this year’s newfound APT destination will likely see a great and exciting turnout for its festivities.
