History & Prestige

The Triton Poker Series was established in 2016 by Malaysian businessmen and philanthropists Richard Yong and Paul Phua . Their vision was distinct from other tours: to create an exclusive environment where high-net-worth recreational players could compete against top-tier professionals in a luxurious setting “for the betterment of the game.”

The series launched its inaugural event, the Triton Super High Roller Series Cali Cup, in Manila, Philippines in 2016 . Since then, it has grown from a regional Asian attraction to a global phenomenon.

The tour cemented its legendary status in 2019 with the Triton Million for Charity in London . This event featured a record-breaking £1,050,000 buy-in, the largest in poker history at the time. While Aaron Zang officially won the title, Bryn Kenney took home the largest single payout in poker history ($20,563,324) due to a heads-up deal . Today, a Triton title is considered one of the most prestigious achievements in the High Roller circuit.

Events & Structure

The Triton Poker Series is not for the faint of heart. It is strictly a High Roller and Super High Roller series, with buy-ins typically ranging from $20,000 to $200,000, and occasional special events reaching significantly higher.

Flagship Formats

Unlike traditional tours that focus almost exclusively on No Limit Hold’em, Triton has been a pioneer in popularizing Short Deck (6+ Hold’em). The action-packed nature of Short Deck appeals strongly to the tour’s VIP demographic.

  • No Limit Hold’em: Deep structures designed to allow plenty of play for the high buy-ins.
  • Short Deck Ante-Only: A signature format of the series, generating massive pots and frequent all-in situations.
  • Triton Invitational: Special events where businessmen invite professionals, creating a balanced ecosystem.

Player Experience

The series is renowned for its “Shot Clock” implementation to speed up play and its incredible hospitality. The fields are some of the toughest in the world, regularly featuring legends like Phil Ivey , Jason Koon , and Mikita Badziakouski , clashing with ultra-high-stakes enthusiasts.
