Masafumi Kimura Wins Run-It-Twice Anew
It’s rare to triumph in the same event twice, but that’s the feat achieved by Japan’s Masafumi Kimura as he outlasted Thomas Van Nedervelde of England to win the (Event #4) Run-It-Twice for the second time after taking it down during Manila Megastack 20 just last December.
The final hand saw Masafumi call Van Nedervelde’s preflop shove with 8♣ 8♦ . His opponent tabled 6♣ 6♦ . The first board ran 2♠ 9♣ 9♥ 5♣ 4♣ while victory came when the second board went A♦ K♥ 5♦ 4♥ 5♥ .
“It feels great to win the championship for the second time in a row,” the Japanese campaigner told SMP after the win. “This is something that people aren’t used to doing so it (gave me) an advantage.”
Masafumi pocketed PhP64,734 (~US$1,160) along with the trophy while Van Nedervelde got PhP40,500 (~US$725). Third place went to another Englishman in Alfie Adam for PhP27,000 (~US$485) while Joseph Sia of the Philippines salvaged fourth for PhP18,000 (~US$320).
