Treasury Brisbane Casino: Embrace New Adventures!
Treasury Brisbane Casino, a beloved heritage landmark for nearly 30 years, officially closed its gaming doors at midnight on August 25, 2024. The closure marked the end of an era for the historic building as the city’s primary casino operations transitioned to the state-of-the-art Treasury Brisbane Casino at the neighboring Queen’s Wharf precinct. While the gaming tables have moved, the Treasury Hotel remains open, offering a blend of old-world grace and modern luxury within one of Australia’s most grand Victorian-era structures.
Why the Move to Queen’s Wharf?
- Evolution of Brisbane Gaming: The move from the Treasury building to The Star Brisbane was a strategic shift to a $3.6 billion integrated resort, providing more than double the gaming space and a modern “Vegas-style” experience.
- A New Poker Era: Poker operations have been significantly upgraded at the new site. The Star Poker Brisbane room now features dedicated cash game tables available from 12:00 PM daily and a high-tech tournament arena.
- Heritage Preservation: The closure of the casino allows the Treasury building to be preserved and eventually repurposed, while the Treasury Hotel continues to host guests in its 96 unique heritage rooms.
- Staged Opening Excellence: The Star Brisbane began its phased opening on August 29, 2024, introducing the Sky Deck, the 340-room Star Grand Hotel, and the city’s most expansive casino floor.

The Treasury Brisbane Casino Poker Experience
With the closure of the Treasury room, poker in Brisbane has reached a new professional standard at The Star Brisbane. The new poker room offers a sophisticated cash game environment featuring No Limit Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha from $2/$3 up to $25/$50. A standout feature is the $2/$3 “Turbo” game, which utilizes an action clock (20 seconds per decision) to keep the pace of play high, a favorite for competitive local grinders.
The 2026 tournament calendar is robust, highlighted by the Brisbane Champs and various WPT satellites. The venue’s state-of-the-art Event Centre, featuring a 1,440-seat ballroom, allows Brisbane to host major international festivals that were previously constrained by the historical layout of the Treasury building. Players now enjoy 8-handed maximum tables and a digital waitlist system that can be accessed via the Star App.
Beyond the felt, the transition has unlocked the Sky Deck, a suspended platform 100 meters above the river. Players can take a break at Cicada Blu or enjoy world-class dining at Sokyo and Fat Noodle, which have moved into the new precinct. This unique combination of high-stakes poker and sky-high luxury makes Brisbane a top-tier destination for the modern Australian player.
