Denmark Poker Guide 2026: Live Casinos And Online Laws

Derick Elomina
Derick Elomina discovered poker at 14, playing home games with his high school friends. What began as a pastime quickly grew into a passion that shaped his career. By 21, he entered the poker industry as a field reporter — just old enough to step foot inside the casino. Starting as a hand reporter, he steadily honed his craft, blending sharp observation with growing writing skills. Known for his dedication, he constantly roams the floor to capture the action, conduct interviews, and deliver live updates. With a strong commitment to the game and a passion for telling poker’s stories, Derick continues to build his path in the industry.

Denmark remains a bastion of stability and high-level player protection in the European poker landscape of 2026. While the market is overseen by the Danish Gambling Authority (Spillemyndigheden), the scene is defined by a unique dual-track system: high-stakes action at premium land-based casinos and a thriving network of licensed “poker clubs” that bring tournament poker to the local community under strict buy-in caps.

Denmark: The Gold Standard of Player Protection

  • The Regulatory Pillar: The Danish Gambling Act is the foundational law. In 2026, the government introduced “Gambling Package 1,” featuring a “whistle-to-whistle” advertising ban during live sports and new restrictions on celebrities endorsing gambling, further distancing poker from high-pressure marketing.
  • Tax-Free Status: One of the most significant draws of the Danish market is its tax treatment. Winnings from any provider licensed by the Spillemyndigheden, whether online or at a physical casino, are 100% tax-free for the player, as the tax burden is handled entirely by the operators.
  • MitID & ROFUS Integration: Security is integrated into the national infrastructure. All legal poker platforms require MitID for login, and the ROFUS self-exclusion register is strictly enforced across both digital and physical venues to ensure responsible play.

Denmark’s Elite Venue Network

The infrastructure for poker in Denmark is split between premium land-based casinos and a robust network of licensed local poker rooms:

Casino Copenhagen : The nation’s premier poker venue. In 2026, it remains the hub for professional action, hosting the Nordic Open and the Dansk Poker Tour. The room is famous for its high-stakes No Limit Hold’em and PLO games, maintaining a sophisticated atmosphere in the heart of the capital.

Casino Munkebjerg (Vejle) : Widely considered the “Heart of Danish Poker,” Munkebjerg has set records in 2026 with its flagship festivals. In partnership with Danske Spil, it hosts the annual Munkebjerg Poker Tour (MPT), which recently hit a prize pool of over DKK 4.5 million, drawing thousands of enthusiasts to the Jutland region.

Online Poker in Denmark

Online Poker Legislation in Denmark

For decades, the Danish state-owned company Danske Spil had a legal monopoly on online gambling in Denmark. This was actually the norm for the Scandinavian countries, think of Svenska Spel in Sweden.

The history of Danske Spil goes all the way back to 1949 when they started taking bets on soccer games. They still run horse races, dog races, and the state lottery to this day.

However, they no longer have a monopoly on online gambling. That is thanks to the 2012 Danish Act on Gambling which allowed foreign companies to apply for licences as well. Now online poker rooms such as partypoker, Unibet and ACR are available for Danish players.

Live Poker Venues in Denmark

As we wrote in our intro, there are just 6 casinos operating in Denmark. They all have poker rooms. They are located in Copenhagen, Odense, Aalborg, Aarhus, Velje and Helsingør.

In the capital city, at Casino Copenhagen, they usually offer 6 tournaments each week, starting at 7 pm Monday through Saturday. Buy-ins range from DKK270 ($40) up to DKK12,770 ($1,885).

As for cash games, they run No Limit Holdem tables at DKK20/20 ($3/$3) and DKK20/50 ($3/$7.5) stakes. They also have Pot Limit Omaha tables at DKK50/50 ($7.5/$7.5) – however, those tables only run on Thursdays.

At the Royal Casino Aarhus, they host a NLHE tournament every other Thursday that they somewhat oddly call “Thursday and Thursday Poker Tour”. The buy-in is DKK1,100 ($163) with an optional DKK500 ($75) rebuy.

They also host cash games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday night with DKK20/40 ($3/$6) blinds.
