The resurgence of poker in Ho Chi Minh City is on! Over the past days, the overwhelming turnout at the ongoing Vietnam Poker Games (VPG) is proving just how much players missed live poker festivals in the city. Running since November 1, VPG Ho Chi Minh has been wall to wall action at the Saigon Poker Room highlighted by the Main Event which kicked off on November 7.

The VPG Ho Chi Minh Main Event attracted 834 entries across four starting flights. With buy in at ₫16.5 Million, (~US$ 650), the initial ₫6 billion guarantee was obliterated for a roaring prize pool of ₫12,134,650,000 (~US$ 480,000).

As seen from opening day, the locals came out in full force, and as the days progressed, international players came pouring in with contingents from India and China among the well represented.

Doors open today, Sunday November 10 with 104 players returning to the tables, each one assured a minimum payout of ₫30,340,000 (~US$ 1,200) while way up top is a substantial ₫2,366,270,000 (~US$ 93,500).

It was evident that the VPG Ho Chi Minh Main Event was going to pack the house with the 187 entries of Day 1A setting a strong benchmark. By night’s end, ITM was reached with Michael Truong leading the 23 survivors. Truong’s lead held throughout the four flights and will bring in the largest stack into Day 2. In addition to the locally dominated list, also finding success at the opening flight were international players Robert Kiss and Amit Kaushik.

Flight B saw an uptick in numbers with 196 entries and local high roller Nguyen Trung Quan bagging the chip lead out of the 25 survivors. Flight C set a new record attendance with 299 entries flooding the room. As the last regular flight, many notable players were in the mix. At bagging time, WSOP Online winner Aayush Arya navigated to the top of the 37 survivor list to earn second rank in the overall Day 2 lineup. Also finding success were Do Anh Tai, Chen Hao, Jack En-Ching Wu, Ha Manh Tuong, and Tran Hai Ha. 

On the flipside, many notables missed the mark. Throughout the four flights those seen at the tables but ran into misfortune were WSOP Online bracelet winner Jinlong Hu, Men “the master” Nguyen, Le Ngoc Khanh, David Erquiaga, Julian Warhurst, Dhaval Mudgal, Nguyen Quang Huy, Tianhao Zheng, Alex Lee, and Peter Kiem to name a few.

VPG Ho Chi Minh runs from November 1 to 11, 2024. This is a mid-stakes festival with buy ins affordable for every wallet.
