After 21 days of nonstop action, the Taiwan Millions Tournament 11 came to a close at the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP Club) in Taipei City. The highly popular homegrown festival ran from January 4 to 24 with 69 players walking away as champions and over US$ 1.2 Million paid out. Among the glorious were Chung Hsien Lee at the Main Event andYu Hung Liu at the Mini Main. Chia Yun Wu snatched up his third TMT Player of the Series title, and Chan Lok Ming swept an astounding six events.

Nearly two weeks after the festival kicked off, the much awaited Main Event 5M guaranteed finally hit the tables. The excitement drew a storm of 1,297 entries across five starting heats, and with buy in at NT$ 8,000 (~US$ 288) each, the guarantee was obliterated in exchange for a sweeter NT$ 8,819,600 (~US$ 317,820) prize pool. After seven days of play, the title came down between Chung Hsien Lee and Yu Xuan Deng, both players seeking their first major win.

The bout lasted a grueling three hours with Lee overcoming a deficit that on several situations grew to a 5:1 gap. Down to 5BB, the momentum shifted when Lee scooped up a big pot holding 8d5d flush against Yu’s QdQh on a board Jd2cKd3d4s. From there, he chipped away at Yu’s stack until the final hand arrived with Ac5d pairing the ace that dusted 7h7d. For his achievement, Lee pocketed a career high NT$ 1,667,300 (~US$ 60,083) which was the largest first place prize money of the series; he was also awarded the iconic champion’s shield. In addition, Lee shipped two other side events, the Nightly Event #5 NLH Turbo for NT$ 33,900 and Daily Deepstack #10 for NT$ 26,100.

A new record was set at the Mini Main Event 2M guaranteed with 850 entries across four starting flights. This was 16 entries more than the previous installment’s turnout. With buy in at NT$ 4,000 (~US$ 145) each, it also smashed its guarantee for a richer NT$ 2,890,000 (~US$ 104,127) prize pool. Out of the 104 players that reached the money round, it was Yu Hung Liu going the distance, besting decorated pro Zong Chi He (4th) and Shao Ting Jian at heads up for his first major victory. Liu pocketed a career high NT$ 581,700 (~US$ 20,960).

One of the most incredible performances at the series was by Hong Kong player Chan Lok Ming with a stunning six victories across the board. At the low buy in tournaments, Chan won two Nightly Events and one Daily Deepstack, then during the last four days of the festival, he shipped three major events – TMT High Roller 4, Megastack, and the NT$ 86K buy in Super High Roller, the most expensive tournament offered. Additionally, his team “King of ITM Dream Team” also won the teams event.

Chan’s success was reminiscent of the 2020 Asian Poker Tour Taiwan series where he closed out four events and was runner up at two others. He also won four tournaments at the previous installment of the TMT last November and reached three additional final tables. Needless to say, Chan is one of the most decorated players in the Taiwan scene. His latest victories earned him a combined NT$ 1,616,400 (~US$ 58,240), boosting his career live winnings to over US$ 300K. He also placed 2nd in the Player of the Series race to bag the NT$ 15,000 TMT package. Here’s a look at Chan’s latest achievements:

Chia Yun Wu has done it again! Chia just edged Chan Lok Ming by 7 points for the Player of the Series title. This was his third TMT POS title having won it back to back at TMT 8 and TMT 9. His latest triumph was due to his victory in three events; he was also captain of the winning “King of ITM Dream Team”. Another deep run was at the Giant Stack event where he finished in 3rd place. For his achievement, Chia was awarded the NT$ 20K TMT Package and POS Trophy. His accomplishments are listed below:

During the early half of the series, the first Mystery Bounty event ever staged in Taiwan was won by Yu Kai Wang. Days later, the winners of the Mystery Bounty’s biggest prizes was determined with Wei Yu Chen drawing the NT$ 100,000 (~US$ 3,600) top prize. The other big winners were Kai Fong Hsuel for NT$ 50,000, Kuang Ying Chen for NT$ 40,000, Yi Shun Lee for NT$ 30,000, and Ming Nan Chou for NT$ 20,000.

Some of the country’s high profile players came out for the Super High Roller 6-Max which included WSOP bracelet winner Yen Han “Pete” Chen, Ting Yi “Eric” Tsai, Yu Chung “Nevan” Chang, and WSOP ring winners Chi Jen “Justin” Chu and Chin Wei Chien. In the end stealing the spotlight for his maiden live victory was the latter Chien for NT$ 748,500 (~US$ 27,000). Fairly unknown in the live Taiwan scene, Chien boasts massive Natural8 online scores that includes 5th place at the 2021 WSOP Online Super MILLION$ High Roller for US$ 355,729.
