Poker King Club heats up Taiwan this August
Taiwan continues to be Asia’s hottest poker destination with international brands visiting nearly every month. Soon to join that list is the Poker King Club (PKC) as it makes landfall at the highly popular Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association (CTP) in Taipei from August 16 to 20.
The PKC is one of the most highly revered brands in the region and is recognised as the “home of the world’s biggest game”. Ever since the cancellation of the PKC Cup Macau 2019, players have been on the lookout. Since the announcement of the PKC Cup Taiwan 2019, anticipation has been very high for this inaugural event. Over the course of the five days, 10 events fill the roster with the Main Event TWD 6M guaranteed headlining the action.
Main Event – TWD 6,000,000 guaranteed
The series jumps right out with its star attraction, the TWD 6,000,000 (~US$ 193,000) guaranteed Main Event. It runs the entire length of the festival. Three starting flights have been set to ensure plenty of chances to advance. Weekend warriors will also be very happy to know that the flights fall outside of the regular work schedule. To enter, buy-in is TWD 27,500 (~US$ 900).
Day 1A: Friday, August 16
Day 1B: Saturday, August 17
Day 1C (Turbo flight): Saturday, August 17
Day 2: Sunday, August 18
Day 3: Monday, August 19
Final Day: Tuesday, August 20
Registration closes at the start of Level 10. All starting days complete 12 rounds. Day 1A and Day 1B will see blinds escalate every 40 minutes, Day 1C (evening turbo flight) will see blinds go up every 30 minutes. The remaining days will have blinds increasing at a very generous 60 minute pace.
Side Events
For those not fortunate in the Main Event, there are other options to try and capture a series win. 9 varying side events fill the schedule with buy-ins from TWD 6,600 (~US$ 215) to TWD 86,000 (~US$ 2,800). A couple of the highlights to mark down are the Formosa Cup and the High Roller.
Formosa Cup
Paying homage to the beauty of Taiwan, the festival features the Formosa Cup. It is coined after Taiwan’s traditional name “Ilha Formosa” aka “beautiful island”. This is the first of its kind offered by the PKC making the title very special. The three-day event runs from August 18 to 20. There are two starting days to enter. Buy-in is TWD 20,000 (~US$ 650).
Book-ending the festival is the two-day High Roller event taking place from August 19 to 20. This is one of the brand’s most anticipated side events with high caliber players suiting up. The field tends to be very tight and the pot tends to be quite healthy. To join, make sure to sign up before the starting buzzer of Day 2. Buy-in is TWD 86,000 (~US$ 2,800).
Other games
In addition, players can enjoy a variety of No Limit Hold’em formats including turbo events. Pot Limit Omaha and Short Deck enthusiasts are also covered.
