18 top players buy in for AUD$100K

By the time registration had closed for this event, 18 players had paid the large entry fee, with almost all of them having good tournament pedigree.

The prize pool rose to a final figure of AUD$1,764,000 with AUD$882,000 set aside for the eventual winner. Big names such as Sam Trickett, Fedor Holz and Bryn Kenney were present, to name just a few. Eventual winner Nick Petrangelo and runner-up Mike Watson had $6.8 million and $9.3 million in live career cashes respectively, before today.

Petrangelo navigates tough field

The first day saw a little over half the field fall away, with Watson, Petrangelo and the ever-winning retiree Fedor Holz, all surviving. They were joined by chipleader Steffen Sontheimer, Sam Trickett, David Peters and David Steicke. The second day would see the first cash pay-outs, with Trickett being unlucky bubble player in 4th place. Holz lost a big flip to bow out in 3rd place, but has another challenge to look forward to, having final tabled the Main Event too.

Watson and Petrangelo both showed their formidable qualities in reaching heads-up play, and the victory could have gone to either player.

In the end, Petrangelo manged to edge out his opponent to take the AUD$882,000 prize money. Watson took home $529,200 and Holz collected $352,800.

Petrangelo will be delighted with his Aussie Millions series, having already taken home AUD$143,640 for a 6th place finish in the AUD$25K event .
