TMT Championship Main Event Shatters Guarantee; Lin Yun Tse Catapults To Overall Frontrunner
On November 3, 2024, just over two hours into Flight C of the TMT Championship Main Event, organizers confirmed that the ambitious US$ 600,000 guarantee had been surpassed with 700 entries. When registration finally closed, the combined count ballooned to 936 entries for a phenomenal US$ 850,000 / NT$ 27,237,600 prize pool. In a statement by Raymond Wong, CTP Director of International Marketing, he expressed,
“We are very happy at the turnout for this first event. Given the number of events happening simultaneously across Asia, it’s especially meaningful to see such a strong response here in Taipei. The enthusiasm and support from both local players and those who traveled internationally to join us have truly exceeded our expectations. We’re deeply grateful to everyone who helped make this event a success.”
TMT Championship Main Event
The inaugural TMT Championship is an off-shoot of the Chinese Texas Hold’em Poker Association’s (CTP Club) most beloved low stakes homegrown festival – Taiwan Millions Tournament – held twice a year in Taipei City, Taiwan. The 2024 TMTC is the first introduction of this high stakes version.
Days leading up to the Main Event, expectations were uncertain due to multiple events taking place in the region and a typhoon postponing its start by one day. After four entry flights completed, running on November 1-3 at the Asia Poker Arena, the TMT once again proved its immense popularity.
Prize Pool and Payout Breakdown
Here are the highlights of the final two flights.
Lin Yun Tse Soars To Overall Chip Leader
Flight C of the TMTC Main Event attracted 289 runners with 44 players advancing to the ITM round. The heat wrapped up with Lin Yun Tse soaring to the top of the counts after delivering the bubble with pocket Nines over Kazuhiko Yotsushika‘s pocket Sevens. When players return for Day 2, Lin will be bringing in a massive 1,264,000 (126 bb) stack. He overtook Flight A leader Andrew Ma (1,180,000).
The Flight C was loaded with some of the region’s top players. Among those making the cut were Alan King Lun Lau, Chao Ting Cheng, Chiayun Wu, Peng Sen Wu, Kun Han Lee, and Tae Hoon Han. However, not all could get past the flight’s challenges. One of the late fallouts was WSOP bracelet winner Lok Ming Chan just before the bubble.
The last flight was a turbo with only 89 taking interest. Among the survivors were Charles Wong, Jereld Sam, Collin Ho, and Po Wen Fang who will have to get some cards early to come up from 4 bb. The bubble burst on Tetsuya Enoki who pushed with an ace that missed the board against Yoonsang Jo‘s pocket Queens. The final flight bagged up with Tsung Hao Li as chip leader.
