Jeju Poker Festival: Song Wang and Dong Li Top Red Dragon Championship Day 1 Rounds

Three more days of play are penned on the Jeju Poker Festival calendar with the Red Dragon Poker Tour festivities right on its halfway point. Series headliner, Red Dragon Championship, has wrapped up its qualifying rounds with its final numbers bringing a combined 642 entries, upholding KRW 1,380,000,000 (~USD 990,995) its guarantee also as its prize pool. Day 1A chip leader Yong Li continues to reign with a 645,000 (108 BB) stack to start the Day 2 rounds. Across the side event lineup, yesterday’s games saw three more trophies lifted with Tsz Kin Heung, Yin Liu, and Kun Han Lee, claiming ownership of the coveted RDPT hardware together with top prizes for besting the smaller field games.

Yong Li Leads Red Dragon Championship Day 2 Charge

A combined 147 runners are set to return to the scene for the Red Dragon Championship Day 2 battle, having survived the first fourteen levels of play across the four scheduled flights. Payouts have been unveiled with the champion set to bring home a juicy KRW 243,800,000 (~USD 174,470) top prize. Twenty eight players will walk away empty handed across the next stage with ITM set at 119 places for a mincash of KRW 4,150,000 (~USD 2,970).

Yesterday’s Day 1C games attracted the largest turnout across the four heats, having recorded a total of 214 entries over nine levels of registration. Only less than a quarter of the field (47 players) remained in battle following the eleven hour grind, with China’s Song Wang topping the list. Wang rose to the top spot by dinner break and steadily chipped up to end the action with a final chip count of 588,000 right on the feature table. Wang sits 4th across the overall order with Queen of Poker Celina Lin trailing closely behind with 513,000, followed by CTP’s David Tai with 501,000, to round up the Day 1C top three spots.

The final flight, Day 1D likewise ran through fourteen levels of 30 minute blinds, with another 31 players out of its 140-entry field advancing onto Day 2. China’s Dong Li stacked the largest by bagging time, having soared to the lead just as the day closed. Li busted Jie Wu right at the last level and extended his lead over the last five deals to end with a towering chip count of 630,000. Li stacks just below fellow Chinese runner Yong Li across the Day 2 list, and will kick off the next round with a great chance to bag a deep finish.

Also moving forward from the final qualifiers are notables Joseph Cheong (493,000), Xixiang Luo (404,000), Farhad Aghayev (365,000), Valeriy Pak (317,000), Bayar Saran (313,000), Thijs Hilberts (240,000), Boxin Jin (227,000), Wenwen Chen (168,000), and Cheng Yen Lo (54,000).

All 147 Day 1 survivors are geared to return on November 29th, 12 noon for the Day 2 battle where the money is expected to trickle in.
