Daniel Neilson Wins Sovereign 50K for Career-Best $1M

Daniel Neilson secured the biggest live tournament score of his career after winning the Sovereign 50K at LES A Casino in Jeju, South Korea .

The Australian defeated Malaysia’s Sean Ooi heads-up to claim the USD 1,006,000 top prize at the July K Poker Cup & King Poker Cup Series .

Ooi collected USD 671,700 for his runner-up finish, while China’s Xuan Tan completed the podium for USD 455,000.

The USD 50,000 tournament attracted 73 entries and generated a USD 3,416,400 prize pool, with only the top 11 players reaching the money.

Daniel Neilson Secures Career-Best USD 1 Million Score

Neilson entered the nine-handed final table third in chips with 2,745,000, trailing only Feixiang Ruan and Tan.

The chip lead changed hands several times during the early stages as Neilson, Ruan and Ooi each moved to the top of the counts.

Neilson eventually began to pull away during four-handed play, using his growing stack to put pressure on the remaining contenders.

He eliminated Jun Wang in fifth place when his ace-ten stayed ahead of king-nine, before winning another important confrontation against Ruan.

Ruan committed his chips with ace-seven but found himself dominated by Neilson’s ace-nine. The board brought no help, sending Ruan out in fourth place for USD 320,000.

Neilson then eliminated Tan in third to begin heads-up play with approximately five times as many chips as Ooi.

Sean Ooi Eliminates Punnat Punsri During Final Table Comeback

Ooi’s runner-up finish completed an impressive recovery after he entered the final table last in chips with 765,000.

He doubled on the opening hand when his pocket jacks remained ahead of the suited ace-queen held by Tan.

Ooi continued to climb and later eliminated Punnat Punsri in seventh place. Punsri moved all in with suited ace-seven but was dominated by Ooi’s ace-nine.

That victory helped Ooi establish himself among the chip leaders and carry his run into the final heads-up battle.

Neilson Defeats Ooi Heads-Up

Ooi found one double-up after heads-up play began, but Neilson’s commanding advantage left the Malaysian with little room to recover.

The tournament ended when Ooi moved all in on the river and Neilson quickly called with a king-high flush.

Neilson’s victory earned him USD 1,006,000, comfortably surpassing his previous biggest tournament cash and moving his recorded career earnings beyond USD 7 million.

Ooi received USD 671,700, taking his own live tournament earnings past USD 3 million.

Big Names Miss the Sovereign 50K Payouts

China’s Mingcong Chen led the 23 surviving players into Day 2 with 1,785,000, narrowly ahead of KPC Unknown 1 with 1,760,000.

Paulius Plausinaitis occupied third place with 1,225,000, while Punsri, Tony Ren Lin and Neilson were also inside the top ten.

Chen, Plausinaitis and Ren Lin were among those unable to convert their opening-day stacks into a payout.

The tournament also ended outside the money for several of poker’s best-known high rollers, including Jesse Lonis , Tom Dwan , Danny Tang , Biao Ding and Wai Kiat Lee .

Lei Yu became the tournament bubble after running into the pocket kings of Ruan. Gytis Lazauninkas then departed in tenth place for USD 100,700, setting the nine-handed final table.

Sovereign 50K Final Table Eliminations

Ruan began the final table with 3,390,000, followed by Tan with 2,895,000 and Neilson with 2,745,000.

Japan’s Ryuta Nakai became the first finalist eliminated after his pocket tens ran into the pocket kings of Ruan.

Zuo Wang followed in eighth when his suited king-ten failed to improve against the suited ace-queen of Jun Wang.

Punsri departed in seventh before Xing was eliminated in sixth place. Xing moved all in with suited king-six and was ahead of Ruan’s queen-jack until a queen arrived on the river.

Jun Wang, Ruan and Tan were the next three players eliminated, leaving Neilson and Ooi to contest the title.

Neilson’s victory closes another major high roller at the K Poker Cup and King Poker Cup Series , following a strong 73-entry turnout and more than USD 3.4 million awarded in prize money.
