Cards In The Air As Ace Poker League Fires Up In Taiwan

Fresh off successful outings in the Philippines and in Japan, premier Korean brand Ace Poker League has touched down in Taiwan for a ten day run at the Asia Poker Arena in Taipei. Back in a city that regularly hosts international events, APL’s return is revered as one of the most eagerly awaited, especially that it has been four years since its previous visit.
Action got underway on June 7 and will carry through to June 16. A total of 70 events is on offer and NT$ 45,000,000 (~US$ 1.5 Million) in guaranteed prize pools.
ACE POKER LEAGUE – APL Taipei – Schedule
Cards Flying At APL Taipei
Known for its loyal Korean following, APL hosting in Taipei will be no exception. With just a short flight separating the two destinations, Koreans have already descended and are expected to increase in the days ahead. One telling sign, the 100 event packages sold out quite quickly.
Opening day has already seen familiar Korea names at the tables such as Wooseok Kim and Hyunsup Kim, both players notching early victories. In addition, local and international notables included Chih Wei Fan, Jack Liew, Chia Yun Wu, and Avneesh Munjal.
Opening Day Winners

Wooseok Kim Crowned First High Roller Event Winner Of APL Taipei
The first high roller event found 43 runners pony up the NT$ 25,000 (~$835) buy-in to build a prize pool of NT$ 928,800 (~$30,995). By the time the money round was reached, it was a battle among Hong Kong, Macau, and Korean players. In the end, Macanese Iat Man Leong - recent APT Taipei Main Event runner up - put up a strong fight but could not get past the Koreans to finish in 3rd place. Wooseok Kim and Kang Sungu then chopped the pot and Kim was crowned champion for his larger stack.

Hyunsup Kim Wins NLH Turbo
Well known Korean pro and APL regular, Hyunsup Kim, was seen in action on opening day and immediately found success at the NLH Turbo. Kim outlasted a field of 29 entrants, turning his NT$ 9,000 buy in nine times over for a champion's purse of NT$ 100,398. This early accomplishment shows good sign for the upcoming Main Event where Kim hopes to land his second major APL title.

Key Event: Good Start At APL Kick Off

The main attraction of opening day was the APL Kick Off featuring at NT$ 3,000,000 (~$100K) guaranteed prize pool. The first two flights drew a combined 200 entries, and at the time of writing, the final two flights were up and running. We will have that qualifier list when all flights have completed.
Main Event NT$ 21 Million Guarantee

While it is still days away, the Main Event and its NT$ 21 Million guarantee will be the most sought after title. Already at the venue and getting in some early practice is the inaugural APL Taipei champion, Chi Jen Chen. He will be in the thick of it as he attempts for a second takedown.
