WSOP #60: $525 Bounty NLH 6 Handed – Orhan Ates “yirtil” – $ 180,177.51
Dramatic finish at the WSOP #60: $525 Bounty NLH 6 Handed event with Turkish player Orhan Ates “yirtil” cracking aces to haul in $ 180,177.51 and the country’s first gold bracelet. In fact, on numerous final table showdowns, luck shined brightly on Ates.
Based on Ates’s live stats on The Hendon Mob, the newest champ had previously tasted victories, albeit smaller and mostly in Cyprus. In 2015, he won the 2015 Merit Gangsters Poker Cup High Roller event for $ 76,920, then at the same festival in 2018, he shipped the Warm Up event for $ 71,525 and landed a career high $ 185,000 at the Main Event for finishing 3rd. Ates’s victory today brought him a second six figure career payout, an amount more than enough to carry him over $ 1.1 million in career earnings.

Picking up the race at 12 remaining, Ates knocked out Dean Pitcher “RandyLahey” (12th) then Renato Ribeiro “Songonku” (10th) on a bad beat with pulling off a runner runner flush against set. He entered the final table as chip leader trailed by two time ring winner Alexandre Reard “STAY_HUNGRY” by a small margin . Reard was the only player decorated with WSOP titles. Just as impressive was Jeffrey Hakim “PlayingNaked” with three final table visits.
The first hour of the final table guttered three players. Out 9th was Arsens Sakanjans “peterpandam” who was first crippled by Tomas Jozonis “CoronaMyAss” with a dominating A-A to A-K then fell to Caique Sanches “Redondez@” when A-6 got lucky against A-10. Hakim (8th) followed with dusted by Ates’s . Sanches claimed his second victim in Augusto Hagen “Betylafea” (7th) who missed with K-10 against pocket eights.
Leading up to the next bust, Jozonis outflipped Ates’s when a ten landed on the flop to partner up his hole cards. Tobias Schwecht “juanson” joined the bashing, eliminating Gaurav Sood “Haversham” with pocket Queens mighty against A-J. This gave Schwecht the lead for the first time which he maintained to heads up.
As chip leader, Schwecht began to distance himself, winning two sizable pots off Ates. The Turkish made up some ground by taking down Sanches on a lucky river straight that cracked with on a board .
Keeping pressure on the players, Schwecht drained Reard in 4th place then cleaned out Jozonis to enter heads up against Ates backed by a massive pile. Less than ten minutes in, Ates got lucky again with rivering a full house to survive nut flush (hand below).
The double up was not nearly enough for Ates to overtake Schwecht – however, on the next showdown, with surviving , Ates was back on top. From there, he closed it out, once again catching the river. He cracked Schwecht’s with on a final board of .
For runner up Schwecht, he may have missed the glory and the six figure payout however his strong finish earned him a record payout $ 98,015.16. Players Sanches and Sood also pocketed their career high score.
