World Poker Tour sets the stage for a Vietnam Main Event record breaker; 626 entries with one flight remaining
The Main Event of the World Poker Tour (WPT) Prime Vietnam festival reached a new level of excitement on Day 1B as the Crown Poker Club in Hanoi was packed with players eager to join the action. By the end of registration, a roaring 304 signed up with an additional 84 re-entries for a turnout of 388. Combined with the 238 entries of Day 1A, the cumulative entries is now at 626 which means the VN₫ 12BN guarantee has been vaporized. The pot is now pushing over VN₫13.5 Billion and will continue to grow with one final entry flight yet to be played out.
With these impressive figures, the tournament is on track to surpass its previous Vietnam record of 777 entries. This prediction is reinforced by the overwhelming response to the evening satellite that witnessed its 5 seat guarantee surge four times over to a whopping 20 seats. The turnout was the largest ever seen for a WPT satellite in Asia.
In addition, WPT Live Events Specialist, Danny McDonagh, announced that the Main Event is aiming to breach not just its own brand record in Vietnam but also shatter all other Main Event records in the country for a non high roller series. The number to beat is 1,020 entries and the prize pool to beat is VN₫ 17.9 Billion.
For all the railbirds, weekend warriors, and players that missed the mark on the completed flights, the last chance to enter is on Saturday, May 27, 2023. Main Event update and Day 1B highlights
To give a brief rundown of Main Event Day 1B, it took eleven and a half hours for the field to reach the bubble round. Russian player Evgenii Chernyi delivered the good news to the final 49 players and bagged up the fourth largest stack. Catapulting to the top was India’s Rajasekhar Puttamsetty who scored a double up off Julien Rouxel during the late rounds.
