A Brief Chat With USOP Ambassador Kyle Bao Diep
SMP: How difficult was it to make this event happen and how special is it to you now that it is here?
KBD: With the Typhoon Yagi, it did make a lot of difficulties. But, we as a team with partner with Crown tried our very best and made it happen. All the blood and sweat did pay off. Looks like it’s becoming a successful event and it's a really good turnout. And there’s more coming in.
SMP: This is the first international event in Vietnam since March. Do you think international poker brands will start returning to Vietnam?
KBD: Yes you can say that this is the first international event after March, let’s call it Black March. We’re good, we’re happy to be back. It looks like there will be more international events coming back to Vietnam in the future. Hopefully not just USOP but more brands because Vietnam is still a very popular destination for everyone.
SMP: What do you find most rewarding about representing USOP?
KBD: It’s growing with the brand. I remember one year ago, I started to become the ambassador of USOP. We were a still small company, now we completely grew to a very big top competing Asian brand. I have also grown myself along the way. I’m happy that I grew with an incredible company.
Ryan Plant Wins The First Elite Trophy
Earlier today, U Series of Poker unveiled its newest hardware, the Elite Champions Trophy and just moments ago, the first one was captured by UK's Ryan Plant at the USOP Hai Phong Superstar Challenge. Along with the trophy Plant won VN₫ 2,180,000,000 (~US$ 88,600), the biggest live tournament score for his poker career. In a brief chat with the newly minted Plant, he shared,
“This is my biggest score in live poker. I won the Mini High Roller last USOP Danang but the trophy is better this time. We made a joke with our friend that that’s what we want to play for, it’s like the nicest trophy."
With everyone at the table highly decorated, Plant felt his toughest competition was his fried Max Buschmann and Abhinav Iyer.
"Abhi is pretty good. We had similar stacks, then Ace-King versus Kings, I got a lucky ace on the turn."
At three-handed, with Plant and Iyer near even in chips, they engaged in a preflop war that ended with Plant calling Iyer's five-bet shove. Plant had A♣ K♠, Iyer with K♣ K♦ , the board ran J♣ T♦ T♠ A♥ 7♣ . After the count,Iyer still had 1 bb left.
On the next hand, Nguyen Van Binh was all in for his last 6 bb with A♠ 5♥ , Iyer joined in with Q♣ 7♠ , Plant called with 8♦ 8♣ . The board came 5♠ 4♦ T♥ 3♠ 4♠ for a double knockout victory.

Pham happily showed his Q♦ T♥ bluff as he raked in the pot.
The last table running ended with short stacked Chu The Dan all in for his last 3 bb holding A♥ T♣ that fell to bigger stacked Hoang Le Anh Tuan's A♠ Q♠ on a board K♦ Q♦ 2♥ T♦ 6♠. While there was no hand-for-hand, Chu was the bubble boy.
