USOP HAI PHONG 2024 Festival Results

Sweet landing for Anton Lu who arrived at USOP Hai Phong today, avoiding the typhoon and its aftermath, then went on to win the Mini High Roller. Lu topped the 31 entry field to rake in the VN₫ 274,100,000 (~US$ 11,140) top prize and his career second USOP title.

The final hand saw Lu check-raise on a flop Q♠ 5♦ 6♥ then push on the turn 3♠ . Yilu Yuan called with less behind holding Q♣ 7♦ , Lu ahead K♦ K♥ , the river was 9♣ .

More of an online player, in January 2023, Lu decided to take on the live scene and has since accrued over US$ 950K in winnings. Several more cashes to go and he will be at seven figures!

MADNESS KICK OFF EVENT – Chip Counts

With the bubble delivered, Day 1D of the Madness Kick Off Event ended with the 56 players remaining. The battle for the top dog spot was between Vu Ta Nhat and Pham Bao.

One level before the bubble round was reached, Pham open shoved with J♥ 5♣ from the small blind and got lucky against big blind's A♥ 9♠ with a jack showing up. This gave Pham the lead however it was brief with Vu doubling up holding K♦ T♣ on a board J♦ Q♥ 5♥ 7♦ 9♠ to jump into the top spot.

Just before the bubble burst, Vu and Pham faced off. With blinds at 5000-10,000, Vu opened, Pham called from the button. Both checked the flop then Pham bet the turn and river Q♠ 9♥ 5♣ T♠ 7♣ . Vu folded to the river bet.

The last flight (Day 1D) of the Madness Kick Off Event wrapped up in just over ten hours with Siddharth Karia knocking out Jianhua Shi on the first bubble hand. Shi was all in for his last 4 bb holding A♥ 9♥ and did not get past Karia's A♠ A♦ .

Bubble time at the Mini High Roller event with 5 players remaining from the field of 31 entries (27 unique). Sitting on the biggest stack is Australia's Anton Lu however he has since been chunked by Yilu Yuan with A♥ K♦ over A♣ 5♠ . Still Lu has 560,000 (28 bb) and Yuan now with 890,000 (44 bb).

The bubble burst on Nguyen Hong Quan who pushed his last 9 bb with 8♦ 7♥ and fell to Jianqiang Jiang's J♦ 9♣ on a board 2♦ 9♠ Q♥ 7♣ K♦ .

The final four players are now guaranteed VN₫ 58,200,000 (~US$ 2,365) with the champion due to pocket VN₫ 274,100,000 (~US$ 11,140).

Taiwan's Tao Wei Chang aka David Chang, who holds a USOP Player of the Series title, is on a mission for a back-to-back having triumphed over a field of 43 runners at the Midweek Event. Chang locked up a payout of VN₫ 92,000,000 (~US$ 3,740) and his career second USOP title.

At three-handed, with the money intact, an ICM deal was struck then they played for the trophy. Nguyen Trung Hieu emerged victorious for his first ever USOP win and a payout of VN₫ 24,841,000 (~US$ 1,009). This was also Vietnam's first win of the festival.

Only 9 players took interest in the Pot Limit Omaha Turbo event with 5 re-entries for 14 total entries. With buy in at VN₫ 6,000,000 (~US$ 240), it built a prize pool of VN₫ 71,000,000 (~US$ 2,885). The final three players opted on an ICM deal then played for the trophy. Zsolt Soros claimed it for his first ever USOP trophy and a payout of VN₫ 20,576,000 (~US$ 836).

MADNESS KICK OFF EVENT - Survivor Chip Counts

Johnni Nielsen dusted the competition at Madness Kick Off Event Day 1C bagging up a towering stack of 1,100,000 (92 bb). This was 40 bigs more than his closest challenger. Nielsen sets the bar very high for the final flight.

Helping Nielsen reach this height, late in the day he eliminated Jin Zhou with 9♥ 9♦ standing up against A♠ K♠ then followed it up with another takedown to cross into seven digits.

Half an hour shy of 12 hours, the bubble burst at Madness Kick Off Day 1C with Nguyen Manh Cuong winning the flip with A♥ Q♥ over Vu Hung Kien's 8♥ 8♦ on a board 6♥ 4♥ 3♠ 3♥ 9♠ .

It's bagging time at the High Roller Charity Event with three players falling to wrap up the day at ITM with 9 players remaining. Here is how it went down.

At 12 remaining, Hoang Hai Nam won the flip against Mingcong Chen with K♥ Q♣ pairing the queen to dust 8♦ 8♣ .

Next to go was Pham Ngoc Tuan who first climbed from 3 bb to 14 bb then fell to Xiaosheng Zheng with A♥ K♥ dominating A♣ T♣ .

The bubble round took only four hands to complete with William Jia calling Martin Sedlak's three-bet shove. Jia was ahead throughout with A♣ K♠ over A♥ J♣ on a board Q♦ 7♥ Q♣ 8♥ 4♦ .

The Madness Kick Off Event drew 879 entries across three flights to crush the VN₫ 5 BN guarantee. Now with the last flight running - Day 1D - the possibility of reaching VN₫ 9 Billion is high. The pot is currently at VN₫ 8.8 Billion. Registration is open until the start of Level 11 at 10pm.

The High Rollers Charity Event locked up registration at 57 entries to generate VN₫ 171 Million (~US$ 6,950) for the ongoing relief efforts in Hai Phong caused by the recent typhoon. In a facebook post, USOP expressed its gratitude to all the players that contributed,

"We are deeply touched and truly appreciate the incredible support shown by the players at USOP Hai Phong. USOP extends heartfelt thanks to all the players for their generosity and solidarity."

Starting last year, a growing number Chinese nationals have been attending poker events in Vietnam. This trend has been particularly noticeable at the USOP, and here at Hai Phong, a large contingent has made the trip despite the typhoon that swept through both countries. According to the organizers, around 200 players are expected.

At opening day, Chinese players already made their presence felt. Famous YouTuber Yuan Xu emerged victorious at the High Roller Warm Up and Xinxing Tan won the 7-Handed Hyper Turbo. These were first time USOP wins for both players.

It wouldn't be a surprise to see more Chinese players up on the podium. At this time, Chinese player / Asia circuit regular Tianhao Zheng is one of the big stacks at the Madness Kick Off Event Day 1C.

The High Roller Charity Event has drawn more attention with 51 entries (38 unique) contributing VN₫ 55 Million each. A portion of the pot will go to Red Cross and Hai Phong Relief Efforts caused by the recent typhoon. Registration is still open, closing at 6:30pm, at the start of Level 13. Players that have just arrived have a selection of tournaments to choose from. At the top of the list are the Madness Kick Off Event and High Roller Charity Event for Red Cross Hai Phong. Both cater to different budgets yet both are well worth the time at the tables. The Charity Event costs VN₫ 55,000,000 (~US$ 2,200) with a portion going to help the relief efforts caused by the recent typhoon.

If you haven't yet heard, the Madness Kick Off Event has already drawn 879 entries across three starting flights making this the biggest USOP opener in the brand's young history. Also up and running is the Midweek Event with buy in of VN₫ 6,600,000 (~US$ 264). This is a one-day event. Registration closes at 7pm. Blinds increase every 20 minutes. There are currently 34 entries.

Huge turnout out at Madness Kick Off Event Day 1C with 489 entries (324 unique) to bring the cumulative turnout to 876. That number will increase with Day 1D up and running.
