Anton Lu Wins Mini High Roller
Sweet landing for Anton Lu who arrived at USOP Hai Phong today, avoiding the typhoon and its aftermath, then went on to win the Mini High Roller. Lu topped the 31 entry field to rake in the VN₫ 274,100,000 (~US$ 11,140) top prize and his career second USOP title.
The final hand saw Lu check-raise on a flop Q♠ 5♦ 6♥ then push on the turn 3♠ . Yilu Yuan called with less behind holding Q♣ 7♦ , Lu ahead K♦ K♥ , the river was 9♣ .
More of an online player, in January 2023, Lu decided to take on the live scene and has since accrued over US$ 950K in winnings. Several more cashes to go and he will be at seven figures!

With the bubble delivered, Day 1D of the Madness Kick Off Event ended with the 56 players remaining. The battle for the top dog spot was between Vu Ta Nhat and Pham Bao.
One level before the bubble round was reached, Pham open shoved with J♥ 5♣ from the small blind and got lucky against big blind's A♥ 9♠ with a jack showing up. This gave Pham the lead however it was brief with Vu doubling up holding K♦ T♣ on a board J♦ Q♥ 5♥ 7♦ 9♠ to jump into the top spot.
Just before the bubble burst, Vu and Pham faced off. With blinds at 5000-10,000, Vu opened, Pham called from the button. Both checked the flop then Pham bet the turn and river Q♠ 9♥ 5♣ T♠ 7♣ . Vu folded to the river bet.

One of the cheapest and fastest events in the festival roster was the Win The Button Hyper Turbo with buy in at just VN₫ 4,000,000 (~US$ 160). This drew 21 entries. At three-handed, with the money intact, an ICM deal was struck then they played for the trophy. Nguyen Trung Hieu emerged victorious for his first ever USOP win and a payout of VN₫ 24,841,000 (~US$ 1,009). This was also Vietnam's first win of the festival.

Johnni Nielsen dusted the competition at Madness Kick Off Event Day 1C bagging up a towering stack of 1,100,000 (92 bb). This was 40 bigs more than his closest challenger. Nielsen sets the bar very high for the final flight.
Helping Nielsen reach this height, late in the day he eliminated Jin Zhou with 9♥ 9♦ standing up against A♠ K♠ then followed it up with another takedown to cross into seven digits.

It's bagging time at the High Roller Charity Event with three players falling to wrap up the day at ITM with 9 players remaining. Here is how it went down.
At 12 remaining, Hoang Hai Nam won the flip against Mingcong Chen with K♥ Q♣ pairing the queen to dust 8♦ 8♣ .

HR Charity Event Generates ₫171M For Relief Efforts
The High Rollers Charity Event locked up registration at 57 entries to generate VN₫ 171 Million (~US$ 6,950) for the ongoing relief efforts in Hai Phong caused by the recent typhoon. In a facebook post, USOP expressed its gratitude to all the players that contributed,
"We are deeply touched and truly appreciate the incredible support shown by the players at USOP Hai Phong. USOP extends heartfelt thanks to all the players for their generosity and solidarity."
Growth In Chinese Attendance
Starting last year, a growing number Chinese nationals have been attending poker events in Vietnam. This trend has been particularly noticeable at the USOP, and here at Hai Phong, a large contingent has made the trip despite the typhoon that swept through both countries. According to the organizers, around 200 players are expected.
At opening day, Chinese players already made their presence felt. Famous YouTuber Yuan Xu emerged victorious at the High Roller Warm Up and Xinxing Tan won the 7-Handed Hyper Turbo. These were first time USOP wins for both players.

Both cater to different budgets yet both are well worth the time at the tables.
