Career High Takedown By Erdun Xu At The High Roller 2
Before entering this event, Erdun Xu was just shy of six figures in live career earnings. That all changed at the KPC 2 High Roller event where Xu outlasted the 168 entry field, defeating tough contenders such as Tae Hoon Han, Trung Quan Nguyen, and eventually Jingxuan Zhu after an hour of heads up action. Xu was ahead throughout as he grinded down Zhu and giving him no chance at taking control. Xu shipped a massive KRW 140 Million, equivalent to around USD 101,900. In a post win interview with Xu, he gave SMP some insights into his victory.
How does it feel to win this event?
"I’m very very happy right now!"
We have been covering you since last year here at the Landing Casino since last year, this was your biggest buy-in ever. What made you take the chance?
"Haha, this is definitely not my biggest buy-in. I’ve played some more expensive events back in China, but they may not be tracked in the Hendon Mob. However, I have always been interested in high-stake games so that’s why I decided to play this High Roller."
You beat a field of some of the best players in the world, how did you accomplish it?
"I keep telling myself not to make mistakes, at the same time try my best, and leave the rest to the universe. If I’m lucky enough, victory will come to me."
You came to the final table as massive chip leader, what was your strategy?
"The most important thing was low risk. I believed I could play better in post-flops, so I avoided any swings in pre-flops, and found the right timing to act."
How do you maintain your composure and make sound decisions under pressure, especially in high-stakes situations?
"I have always been a very calm person inside, well, at least in the aspect of playing poker. I think that’s because I’ve been playing poker for a very long time and I am somehow a very experienced player."
Doubling your all time live earning with this massive win, can we expect to see more of you in the future? Maybe turn it into more than a hobby?
"Of course you will see more of me in the future. There’s no clear stand whether I treat poker as a job or a hobby. I can only say it is and will be one of the most important things in my life."
How and when did you get into poker?
"It has been almost 15 years since I started to play poker but I just started to play tournaments a few years ago."
